Not the same new pup as two weeks ago, this one is a 4 month old Doberman female who's owner could not spend enough time with and sought a new home. Just my lucky day I guess!

Doesn't appear the young lady ever took her for a walk! I did, and she clearly needs practice! She seems housebroken but we're watching her and timing her intervals between consuming and excreting!

If the chick doesn't reconsider her decision to give her up, she might turn out to be a great addition to La Familia!

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

No. She's 4 months old and even if cropping were important to me I will not do it now. It is typically done when they are very little pups.

Additionally, as I have no papers on this pup, I don't know her pedigree and thus have no worries about misrepresenting her "breed" when asked. So the next time my gutless H.O. insurance carrier decides to bail on my coverage simply because they just realized I live in Florida...I won't have to worry about denial of coverage due to ownership of a "known to be dangerous" breed!

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

My best friend growing up had a female Doberman named Duchess. She was a great dog. She had a great ball drive and would fetch until she was out of breath. Hope you get to keep her & toss a tennis ball around.

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

I had a doberman for 14 years. She was a fantastic dog. In fact my wife almost didn't date me because of it, but she came to her senses and wound up loving the dog as much as I did.

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

Doberman’s are awesome dogs. In my experience they are one of the most affectionate breeds out there if treated right. There is nothing like having a 75 pound lap dog.

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

Switch,

Her name is Maxine. The young beautician who gave her up said the sire's name was Max so she named her Maxineand called her that, Maxie or Max! As our late GSD was named Dax, Mrs. Q is a little inclined toward a name change but I think it's a bad idea. The pup comes to her name and I don't want to screw things up!

She is settling in pretty nicely given the stress of the day.

Cegorach,

No stoolin man, this pup was clearly a lap dog for her mistress but we have a "no canine asses" on the sofa policy!

Is 75 pounds typical of female Dobies? Know anything about "Warlocks"? She was described as a warlock: Greek to me.

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

Now that I'm not in the dark on a laptop, I can comment...

Very nice! A good friend of mine (RIP) had dobermans always. One male, one female-always Jake and Dixie. By the time I met him he was on Jake4 or so, and when he died I think he was on Jake6.........

Great dogs, and if the Mrs wasn't a little dog freak, there'd be a doby mix at least in the pack.

Good job QQ, if she stays I'm sure she's adopted a great family!

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

Cav,

Thanks for the link. Sounded like crap. The young lady who gave her up said her fiance paid $900.00 clams for her...

$900.00 is real money mang! Too much for my sangre! This pup was free to us. If the donor doesn't suffer cognitive dissonance in the next few days, and come back asking for the pup, I'm fairly confident she will fit in nicely here.

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

queequeg,

She's gorgeous! My wife grew up w/Great Danes but after we inherited our Dobie from my brother in law she said from now on we will have at least one Dobie at all times. BTW, nothing wrong with natural ears. I like the look of the cropped ears but floppy ears works too.

Cayenne is holding the floor down next to my chair right now. This pic was a couple weeks ago and IIRC only the second time she's ever seen snow (8yrs old)... She was not impressed.

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

Ill have to get a pic of my Doberman.

His name is Oliver. He is an awesome dog. He looks tough but he never acts it. I think the Wiener dog is tougher than him.

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

My guess is when a treat is offered in hand she comes rather quickly to,
"whooooz da pretty puppeeeeee, pretty giiirrlllll" with her tail and butt wagging, right?

I want to get a female dog so Bulleit has smeone to rough house with. I like Red and Blue Dobey's but Panty 6 and the kids don't. Maybe I can sweet talk PAnty 6 into a Cane Corso in black

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

Thanks guys,

She seems to have gotten a lot of love and little training! Not completely house broken and not conditioned to sit-stay or come to her name on command. 4 months old and she is behind but we are catching her up. She has no fear of raised hand so it looks like she never was struck. She's a little anxious and skittish in the new digs but our GSD Elke is a good girl with her ( Maybe a little too rough!) and she seems to be taking to the place!

Now if only the young lady who gave her up remains resolute a few more days, we may begin to think she'll be here permanently!

She's getting lots of love, play, walks and correction but we are hesitant to believe she is all ours just yet.

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

I think your safe with her not coming back for the pup. I have found with helping with rescue of certain breeds that anytime someone gives someone a dog it is a bad bad idea. It is all in the new owners mind if they can afford the time, effort and cost of ownership and that is not someting even a spouse can often gague about someone. The responsibility seeps slowly in with the need to not disappoint the giver that this is not going to have a happy ending. This is really true when you get a dog for your kids. If they still depend on you for normal things like dressing, food on the table, and transportation to school and activities they are not ready to have a family of there own which is just what a person forces on kids by trying t teach them responsibility with something alive. I got my kids cars before they got an animal. When they showed responsibility there they could get there own pick of pet. I think your safe and the giver did the right thing before it got out of hand.

Re: New Pup in the QQ Household!

i got an akita from someone that couldnt take care of her. they had an older dog and this young female akita it a rough little bitch when she plays. so my male akita taught her some manners. she is still onery, always messing with him. but when i got her, they said her name was felisha...wtf man, felisha?? now its merci. it can be done, but i like maxi or maximus or maximum or all the other silly names we cal our dogs when its just us, lol. she is a cutie
