Ok, so I picked up my new Redding FL die and while using it with the expander installed, the case will not fit in my Lyman Case Gauge but when I remove the expander/decapper rod it fits perfect. Am I missing something or is there possibly the wrong size expander installed in my 308win die? Also I stuck my first case in this die, any tips on removing it or just send it back to Redding?

Re: New Redding Die Issues

Why your cases don't fit the gage would be a guess.

Why the case got stuck in a sizer is not a guess; you didn't have enough case lube on the lower portion of the body AND/OR did't apply it correctly.

Removing the stuck case rquires a Stuck Case Remover. RCBS and others make them and everyone needs one.

Re: New Redding Die Issues

Take that Lyman case thing and trash it, with the expander installed it is pulling the neck up and lengthing the case, its probably doing this because you have no lube inside the neck, and the neck is dirty, combine those issues with a too small of bushing or the the die itself is sizing the neck way too much. Get some Imperial sizing wax, stuck cases will be a thing of the past, lube the body and the lip of the neck, nothing on the shoulder.

Re: New Redding Die Issues

Are you having issues putting the cartridge into the die or is after it is sized and you are pulling it out? If its happening on the way in you may have the wrong size expander. From what I understand and there are a few threads on this is to either have Redding send you a new expander or get a carbide if you are having trouble pulling the cartridge out. Measure your expander and see what kind of numbers you get compared to your case mouth.

Re: New Redding Die Issues

Thanks guys, I just ordered a stuck case remover so I can continue. I am using Dillon case lube, but did not pay specific attention to lubing the neck. Once I get the case out I will give it another go, but the expander size is still driving me nuts, I will post the measured size this evening.

Re: New Redding Die Issues

Ok, so I just received my stuck case remover, removed the case and had to cut the case apart to remove the expander. the rod is bent and the expander is .322" which I assume is wrong for a .308 WIN die. I guess I will try to call Redding. This isn't good for my first Redding product.

Re: New Redding Die Issues

.308 expander balls for Redding dies mic at .307, so something's up. If this is ammo meant for a bolt gun and you're not klutzing the necks up, by dropping them on the ground, forego the expander ball and go with the black undersized depriming pin retainer.

You don't need the ball if your throat is somewhat concentric.

It's only an 8mm expander! It's not like they stuck a .338 expander in it. Givem a break
