Here are some pics of the new retical that will be in the spotters. Not the greatest pics but you get the idea. I like it a lot better than the old one. Pics were taken around 1700hrs with fading light. The tower is about 1200 yards away. The second pic is on 15X and the last is on 45X.

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

Very nice, it almost reminds of a MOA reticle, Bushnells is really coming on strong with products that work and us working folks can afford, nice job.

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

Can you have that installed in the older scopes if you send it in or is everybody with the mil dot version just SOL?

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

The guy in charge of Bushnell spotting scopes told me at SHOT this would be ready to ship at the end of February. he also said it would be coming with a revamped soft case and that he was exploring other options for different reticles.

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

I wondered over the the Horus booth at Shot and noticed they had a Bushnell Excursion spotting scope set up there. I looked thru the reticule and saw this...

Sorry for the crappy pic, but getting a clear picture thru the spotter with my camera was almost impossible. I only took a picture on one magnification setting, but the Horus reticule is FFP as well. Horus said they will be available almost immediately, but I honestly forgot what the price was gonna be to have the Horus reticule in it. But don't hate me for forgetting, I couldn't really focus because the reps looked like this...

He told me the same thing. And also said the new Bushnell excursions will not come with a tripod. He said the main negative feedback they were getting was the tripod was shit, so they just decided to not ship it with one.

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

OK guys I heard back and they are not set up to change out reticles on the old spotters. They are working on several reticles but they will not be out until 2012. The availability of the new scope is still being worked on and they are still working on the Horus-type reticle above. Also, they will not be shipped with tripods any longer but they will have new covers. Mine has the new cover and I can take a pic later if you want to see it. Same design, just better material.

I'll let you know if I find anything else out on these.

Please clarify if this includes the reticle you showed in the first post. Or, will that one be available this year sometime? Thanks.

The Bushnell rep at SHOT told me the new Mil-line reticle you see at the top will be avialable this month

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

Why don't they have anything like that in their rifle scopes? I would think the move to put them in the scopes first then spotting scopes would make sence??? Nice to see their coming out with better reticals? I tell ya their power range and pretty good glass, good price, and great reticals will put them in on the heals of the big dogs!

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

NTRP-CKA... any chance you can upload a pic of the new style cover/case that your Excursion came with? I'm curious to see what the new overall Excursion package will look like. Too bad they are not swapping out the reticles for the new hash style. Hopefully in the future they will. Curious too see if the Horus style reticle will add $800 to the cost of a $350 spotter, or if Bushnell/Horus have worked out something more affordable.

Can you tell me what the hash values are?

Yeah thanks for that, answered all my questions....
I assume the 10 is 10mils but just doesn't look quite right in the pic. Perhaps someone else (who's not guessing) could answer the question instead of stating the obvious. Anyone measured the values, the dashes look around the .2mil mark... pretty hefty

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

The Mil-Hash reticles are out NOW.

I seriously wish one could have the option between the new Hash reticle and the original Mil-Dots. Now that the Hash reticle is on the market I can't find a single Mil-Dot version in stock. I would think some who prefer the Hash reticle would be puting their Mil-Dot reticled Bushies up for sale, but I don't see that yet.

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

Question:

Are you guys using these scopes have any trouble spotting 30 caliber hits at 300 yards?

I was looking real hard at the vortex recon, but at less money, and more magnification and a small compact size, I think this might work out just as well.

I am looking to a spotter that can do this pretty consistently, that also has milmarks, wihthout breaking the bank. This might be the one!

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

If I could get the ultra hd 45' with the mil hash I'd buy it in a heart beat. Might have to call bushel and see what they can do. I don't necessarily have a need for a tactical scope but like the features. The only downside to the ultras is lack of a reticle for spotting corrections.

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

For a rifle shooter I see no particular advantage in the new reticle over the mildot.

As far as I can see, the reticle offers at best a 1mrad resolution so you can't use it to properly estimate distances useful to a rifle shooter on target size objects.

It's probably great to direct indirect fire though!

Why no 0.1, 0.2 or even 0.5mrad marks?

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

That's exactly what I was thinking.

If they are going to go to a hash reticle, why not subdivide one of the mils in each quarter to .2? Especially as a reading would become quite precise at higher powers?

Personally, I find the hash reticle clutters the FOV too much for a spotter which should be relatively clear so as to give an unhindered view. I liked what I was seeing in the mil dot reticle as it was uncluttered and looks the same as my scope's mil dot reticle with which I am comfortable. I should have gotten one before, so now I'll wait and see what comes along on the used market since Bushnell decided to drop the dot reticle entirely. I'm sure there are others who dig the hash that will sell their dots down the road. Bushnell should have given us both reticles as options IMO.

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

whats the opinion on these for export -are they classed as military and need a permit ? It has to be only a matter of time before Bushnall gives us some other very useful reticle's with this scope

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

No knowledge on this subject ??

Re: New Retical in the Bushnell Excursion

i'm not too sure about the quality of the glass. the old trick is to look at parallel vertical (or horizontal) lines and check whether they are clear and parallel. looking at the picture of NTRP-CKA the picture gets blurry at the edges. for instance the 20 marker is really blurry on the bottom, but similar for top/left/right.

could be due to the photo but still something i'd check in person.

I have the mil-dot version and after seeing the new one that's what i think also, if they had gone to some MLR with .5 mil marks it would be an inprovement over the older version.
