so i recently bought a new rifle and am having trouble getting the rounds to fit properly. I have tested factory ammo as well so i know its not just my hand loads but i need someone with more experiences advice...

So i can get the round in the chamber and the bolt to lock down and fire however it just seems much too tight. When you lock the bolt its a stuggle to get it to lock. i have tried seating the bullet deeper, new vs used brass, and different bullets themselves.

currently i am using sierra match kings and have tried hornady as well. the hornady seems to be easier to get the bolt to lock but its still more difficult than it should be.... any help is greatly appreciated!! i need it! the next is using the warranty and sending it back to remington

are you full length resizing? if its doing it with factory loads, are you sure you have the right cartridge for the chamber?

If I'm reading this correctly, it's doing this even with factory ammo?

Have you tried removing the ejector and trying to chamber one? (in a safe manner of course)

yes brand new rifle and it IS doing it with factory ammo as well... it all "fits" its just very very tight once its chambered.... I havent tried removing the extractor no

and yes im using the right cartridge of course.

You've already gotten a bunch of good responses.

If this is a factory gun, I wouldn't bother doing any further testing - just send it back. Factory ammo should NOT chamber tight in a factory gun. That's what SAAMI is for!

If it's a custom gun, contact the smith and discuss. Depending on the reamer used, there could be a bunch of causes for this.

sounds like a bolt prob (i assume you got the correct bolt for your rifle- yes it has happened), slightly machining error, i once saw a rem 700 with a burr or the bolt face would not chamber at all, took it off chambered perfectly- as someone else said return it.

Diddo......AND do not mention anything about reloading, using your handloads, etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've already done the felt tip marker with dummy Roy d. Shows contact on the round shoulder and the projectile itself.... it IS a factory gun still under warranty. Talked to Remington a week ago ( didn't mention hand loads) and they said they would take it back... just a long wait I'm trying to avoid... do people think I should send it back? And if I do would they do anything or claim its fine?

Yes.

Again, the bolt on a factory rifle with a SAAMI compliant chamber should <span style="font-weight: bold">NOT</span> close tight on SAAMI compliant factory ammo.

Take the bolt out and shine alight down in the chamber to see if there is anything in there - obstructions or whatever. If it looks like a clean cut chamber with no debris then send it off.

Do you have a GO gage for said caliber.
Sounds like a headspace issue, take it to a local gunsmith and see if the go gage chambers.

I read about a problem like this over in the Smithing forum. I believe it was that the bolt lugs were not properly clocked/timed on the bolt. It was a simple fix. Call Chad Dixon he can probably walk you thru fixing it.

Sorry, I am assuming you know that Chad is the owner of Longrifles Inc. and is highly regarded here on the hide.

Bought a Sendero last December and its been back to Remington 3 times warranty related to the chamber. (1st - recut chamber, 2nd - they damaged the bolt body on first trip, 3rd trip - they left a burr in the chamber and problem still existed so they just rebarrelled it).

But Despite sending it back that many times each time they had a shipping label same day as phone call and it was never more than two weeks from time I called to when I had it back. So assuming they get it right the first time you shouldn't have it gone from you all that long.

I appreciate all the help on here... its been a really frustrating process. Buying a new rifle and not having it work properly. I havent decided what my next step is, but i will keep everyone updated on what i do (send it back or end up finding a remedy)

since we don';t have picture of the gun, does it have an scope?
just maybe one of the scope mount screws is protruding through the receiver and contacting the bolt. this happens occaisonally.

another thing to check is the action screw, make sure it's not protruding up past the receiver wall and contacting the bolt.

sorry its taken so long to report back, we recently moved and havent had internet service. But I got the problem sorted out. I simply switched projectile manufacterers and it works perfectly. I was using Sierra match kings and switched to Hornady Match and havent had an issue since.

So it was a bad lot of bullets or loaded ammo you were using? I thought you had marks on the brass and the bullets, which suggested improper headspacing. I thought that factory rounds were giving you a headache too, what were you using? Sorry, but this just seems strange to me. If you're sure this is fixed, I'm glad for you.
