Any details on the new tripod I saw some pictures of in the Shot Show threads? Can't find anything on their site, no shot show video featuring the their booth etc. Anybody found a video I've overlooked?

Looking for details like price / release date, and comparison to the 34L. Thanks!

It’ll come out and will be posted on the hide in two weeks or so. Will be altered a bit from all the comments at shot. It’ll be close to the same height as the 34L. It’ll only have two sections which are inverted with a two series versa apex. This makes the twist locks up on the top of the tripod instead of the bottom. Also cuts weight, cost to customer and increases speed. But it isn’t a pack friendly tripod like the 34l. It will fit in a 1750 sized gun case for air travel.

Nice overview thanks! So 2 series apex does this mean the legs are 2 series / smaller/ less sturdy than the 34L?

Sorry to be impatient ?

Here it is. It didn't make their catalog, but Mrs. SOAR demoed it for me. Seems badass! Might be my first RRS.

What is the collapsed length? I know you said it’s “not pack friendly” but what does that mean? If I can ask? Doesn’t seem like even their 34L collapses real short.

More interested in a bino mount

Have you seen the Outdoorsmans bino mounts? I’m a full time hunting guide and that’s the stud and mount I use.

Wonder if it will be offered with anvil-30. I can't make up my mind what head I want. To justify this cost I need this thing to double as a better camera tripod than what I have too. Probably gonna be 90% PRS / Optics, and 10% photography.

Not specifically, is it a stud or cradle? Not super interested in either.

The RRS looks low profile enough to leave on the binos and still use normally. I like that.

Makes a lot of sence for square/flat range PRS/NRL style ~

The only thing I’d be somewhat concerned about would be for using the tripod for matches like ours where the angle of the hill can be very steep, like what you might find hunting.

In some spots one leg may be as short as it goes with the apex lever lock opened to creat an even lower leg. Think shooting on a very steep side hill.

Just someth to think about ~ I love my RRS and love their innovation. Anyway, look forward to more RRS innovations..

Come out and test out your new tripod with us in November 2020. It’s a one day spin up type match (sold out fast last year) and we only have a few spots left!

Sorry shameless plug. Seemed appropriate as this is just about as close to a tripod match as you can get.

I went and talked to @mlpkhl at rrs when I bought my atlas bipod adapter right before they packed for shot. I asked about tripods and heads for shooting and camera work. Recommended for me the Bh55sc head and the Tfc34 tripod (you might need the 34l. I'm 5'6 and the wife is 5'9). The Bh55sc is super nice and smooth. For comparison I had a Manfrotto 055cxpro4 with mhxpro-bhq6 head before they got stolen along with my Canon 80d a few years ago.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. I think it's pretty much the same idea as the RRS system. I couldn't find the system you're referencing on the RRS site. Yes, the Outdoorsmans system uses a stud that stays on your binos. You can use the binos with the mount attached but they won't fit into the chest rig where my binos live; despite how small, light and unobtrusive it is. So, I store the mount in a small pouch on my bino harness and the stud stays on the binos always. I could buy a slightly larger chest rig or, possibly, use their short bino adapter (which might be perfect for what you're wanting) but I bought the tall one so that I could also use the adapter with high power binoculars that's a lot bigger. I'm a hunting guide year-round and I'm usually carry both a spotting scope and my binos so I'll typically leave my spotter on my glass tripod; but I could just as easily leave the bino adapter on tripod and just snap on my binos when I got there. The Outdoorsmans stuff is very commonly used in the guiding community from Alaska to Texas and most guys that come work for me use a lot of their stuff; and that makes swapping tripods and mounts with our glass pretty easy. Love the RRS but a lot of the stuff from Outdoorsmans is just as well or ALMOST as well made and more in our price range. I would say it's certainly worth your time to look at it. PM me if you'd like to to take some pics of my setup for ya.

Lemme know if you need RO's. I'm not sure I'll be up to shooting competitively, but would RO if you need help.

RO'n would be great but you don't need to worry about being on top of your game. The entire idea of this match is to be fun, maybe a bit of a mental challenge, like the best way to approach the theme of the stage, but the shooting is mostly on super generous sized targets.

But yes, we need ROs :)

Hope to see some of you guys come up.

Trying it out with my BTX 95 and my R8 “heavy” (13.5#) setup 300 Norma LR hunter

Nice to just grab everything from the top and go from prone/sit/stand /whatever

How does it feel with the minimum heights in the 1st and 2nd positions, in regard to kneeling and sitting? Any opinions with it as compared to other models?

I'm debating heavily between this and the TVC-33. I realize a lot of it will be contingent on angles to target, but 'concerned' the minimum heights in the first and second positions with the 22i may be a bit too tall (plus the Anvil height). Of course legs can be splayed out independently to adjust, but the footprint width could be a limiting factor in some situations.

I really haven’t had enough experience with it to answer some of your questions...

It is very stable and gets as low as I need to go, as far a as size - it is BIG and if you are limited in space like a “limited specified comp arena” It could be problematic.

I operate in big country and can pick my arena - specifically I will try this as a setup for my 300N Blaser in regions that I have been very successful observing game and am able to make shots short to LR without moving.

I used have used the 1, 2 and 3 series RRS tripods with the anvil (since it’s inception) as well as the BH55/40/30/mini bh18 and the traditional tripods have worked very well - except when in deep snow/mud crud with the leg adjustments which required regular cleaning after a 12 hour day in the field before heading back out again on 4 hours of sleep.

I use a very lightweight medium outdoorsmans tripod (RRS BH-18 mini ball) for serious high country long distance backpacking and the RRS 2 or 3 series/anvil-30 for more localized packing.

This big rig for me will be used in very limited way, out of my truck or SXS with the BTX95 and the aforementioned heavy gun setups within a mile or two of my SXS or truck.

The handiness of top adjustability and no crud in the moving parts will make it worthwhile for some of my circumstances, but will not replace my other tripods for general duty.

What would be your recommendation for somebody not hiking far that will thermal hunting for coyotes with a AR 15? I’ve been looking at a SOAR setup.

Almost same price, weight similar. 2 series has plenty of stability, but I like 3 sections instead of 4 unless you need the dimensions of the 24L I like the 33 for doing it all. Very strong, quicker to deploy, fewer moving parts to clean. You can buy the tfct 23 and add the anvil 30 / adapter yourself for even less weight if that is a concern
