The PST Gen2 is good advice. Vortex builds a lot of scope in the PST Gen 2, but if you are starting out, that might be too much scope for you, or too much spend right now. Athlon is a good brand as well for basic scopes. I might be more inclined to point you to Arken Optics .

The good news is that rings and mounts have really improved and you can get good quality for not a big ticket. Leupold is probably the best for the money, in my opinion, but Vortex, Nightforce (maybe too much), Badger and Arken are good choices.

Bottom line, given your rifle and what you said about your knowledge of scopes, you can do well in the price range you listed, and I am leaning heavily on Arken with a Athlon as a back-up.

I've gotta give another plug for the Gen II PST. Just about everything in that line is a great bang for the buck. Really good glass, comfortable eyebox and accurate turrets/reticle. The only thing i don't like about them is that, although the elevation has a zero stop, the windage doesn't have any sort of stop at all. The knobs are such that accidentally spinning them has been pretty common for me. There are many work around though.

Unless I'm mistaken, midway has 15% off of Vortex right now. Just don't skimp on the rings. Seekins. Nightforce, etc.

Kind of hard to make a scope recommendation without the intended purpose of said rifle.

I can assume with a 24" barrel you're going to be doing some long distance stuff. How long?

Still kinda in the upper low-end market.

Vortex Viper PST2 3-15x44 should come in around $750.
I have one of these on a lightweight 7mm RemMag (tikka T3x Lite on Manners T4 MCS) Over 1000 rounds on that combo. Never lost zero and tracks amazing. Great resolution on 1-1.5moa plates at 1400-1600y.

I can't recommend that scope enough.

For rings... the Vortex matched serial # rings are excellent. I actually use UTG Pro rings with that 7mm RemMag..... laugh all you want, those rings areade in USA and never had any shift whatsoever. I have Nightforce, A.R.M.S, Leupold, Aero Precision, JP Arms, Vortex. Badger Ordnance....

No issue with anything. Get a proper in-Lb torque wrench, don't lube the threads, don't overtighten. I check torque on my rings maybe once a year and I use my rifles, carry them on a motorcycle off road, etc. Get good equipment and trust the equipment.
