I need to redistribute my tax refund so I contacted Scott at Liberty Optics. I'm going to get two Vortex scopes but the third scope he is recommending is a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 LR mildot. I haven't heard or read much about the Sightron scopes. What is the general opinion of this scope? Is there another scope with similar features in the $700 to $800 range that I should be looking at instead? Thanks for the info.

Bob

Re: New scope choices ...

Tell me you are in the Air Force and you write everything in BLUE!!!

Sightrons are great scopes. The only holdback is the MIL/MOA issue. That gets a lot of people hung up.

I had one on a BR gun and it was fantastic. I unfortunately sold it with the gun and have never had the need for another.

There are tons of others in that price range, but I don't know what you are putting it on or using it for. For the money they are great scopes.

Re: New scope choices ...

The Sightron has non-FFP mil reticle and MOA knobs. It would be low on my list of scopes to get.

If the money is burning a whole in your pocket that badly....just tell him to send you whatever he wants to get rid of.

If you must......I would get one Vortex, see if I like it, order more when I have a better idea what I want. "Good" and "Bad" are not the only things to consider when purchasing a scope.

This way your next post won't be:
"I just blew my entire tax return on 3 scopes I knew nothing about and I am regretting it."

That was my original plan, to get the PST, but it looks like the realistic time frame to get one would probably be June or July. I'm not on a waiting list anywhere. I've moved the scope on my .260 AI to another gun and need a new scope for it pretty soon. Any other scope in this price range to consider?

No I was Army. I just like using blue.

Re: New scope choices ...

You may want to consider the Weaver tactical, which is around the same price of the SIII. FFP, and the glass looks to be pretty good.

Re: New scope choices ...

There have a been a couple of reviews so far, generally positive. I know a friend of mine just picked one up Friday, but we haven't made it to the range yet (still waiting on our bolt knobs to return). I can tell you that the turrets are crisp and positive, and the scope looks to be very well made.

and fill out your profile too while you're at it.

Blue is fine, red is better but damn man, leave the colored ink in your sig lines...or is you some kind of pussy?

Jeez! Why all the hate for a little color? OK, I'll stop using anything but b l a c k ! Oh, I filled out my profile too! Now any other suggestions on a 30mm tube, 20X+ upper end, 50mm objective scope in the $700 to $800 range? Thanks.

Re: New scope choices ...

I own the Sightron Big Sky in 4-16x42 which I use for hunting and I have nothing negative to say about it. Great glass, tracks great, works great in low light conditions, and the company has an unbelievable warranty. There was an issue with the mildots, but I thought that was taken care of a couple of years ago, don't know for sure. As a matter of fact I am getting ready to purchase another sightron in the near future. But I am not into long range shooting like you guys are. Mine is for 200 to 300 yds with a 22lr.

Re: New scope choices ...

Bushnell 4200 Elite series. 6-24x50 tactical....nice glass, mil-dot, turrets move nicely(tho they stick out like a pup-tent in math class!) can probably pick them up pretty cheap here shortly as Bushnell has a new model w/ FFP that will fill the under 1k niche nicely....

Very good scope. I would recommend it to anyone as well.
