I finally got some ammo loaded to take my new shorty 308 out to break the barrel in. It's built on an Impact Precision action, 18" Benchmark barrel, MDT XRS chassis, Geisselle Super 700 2-stage trigger. Scope is a Steiner M7xi.
I'm using the Berger 155 Fullbores. Loaded up a random load in the middle of the published min-max - 43 grains of Varget. Seated at an arbitrary 060 off (long to get enough bearing surface in the neck).
First shot was at 2470 and velocity went up a little as expected over the first 50 rounds.
I took some shots at this target and it rang it pretty good.
So, what's not right? Everybody says that 308s are only good out to 800 yards - this one was at 950
... during barrel break in with a random load at a random seating depth...
