Photos New SIG 556 DMR

Edit: Got the suppressor mounted up.

Just got back from the range with this sucker and I have to say I am impressed! (please excuse the sweat stains on the check piece, but it was freakin HOT!) Shot better than I expected. With the 69gr Noslers over 24.5gr TAC it was a consistent 1 MOA gun. Speeds were around 2840fps and even had a couple sub-MOA presentations, but this was not the norm. I have to say I think the gun is possibly capable of this accuracy consistently, but the trigger is MUCH different than I am used to. Not that its bad, it just has a LONG first stage with a crisp second. Took my time and got the group shown. The PST was excellent and passed the box test Handloader and I ran it through. All in all quite happy with the new stick and will be getting this puppy threaded for some suppressed shooting!

I really like that rifle but I am totally amazed that SIG went with a 1:10 barrel for it. I have seen a couple at gun shows and wanted to whip out the credit card but that twist - not sure why???

1:10 will stabilize at least 69gn bullets maybe more, not sure whats so horribly wrong with that?

Most people like 1-9 maximum twist for a 5.56 and it goes down to 1-7 which shoots larger bullets.

well, here is my opinion. The DMR is for marksman shots which means longer ranges can be needed. Having a 1:10 probably won't stabilize the 77 Grain long range round so what is the point of having it? Having a 1:8 would be the most versatile for a 5.56 barrel in my opinion so if SIG is going to build a rifle for the DMR crowd what would you make a 1:10 twist barrel.

I own this same rifle with 1:10, and I have fired everything from 40gr vmax to 77gr SMK's. Believe it or not it consistently shoots the 77's the best at MOA or better. My results are not atypical from some of the reports I have read hear and on the Sig forums.

I believe the added velocity of the 21" barrel aids in stabilizing the heavier bullets. Its the same as saying a 1-12 should not stabilize 175 smks, but they do it on a regular basis. Or guys that are shooting 208 amaxes out of <20" bbls with 10 twist max, that should NOT work, but some do...

I believe SIG to be a fairly smart company, and when they offer the DMR in 18" and 1-8, then the 21" is 1-10, there must have been a reason for it, they didnt just pull that out of their ass.

Gun is in range bag. Waiting for buddy to ring the door bell and we are off to sweat our asses off and see how this thing shoots! Here is what it will be competing with (my SPR build) which I am also taking. Hoping the 21" barrel will get the velocities higher than the 16" WOA barrel for 600yrd steel plates. I hate tuning a load to each gun and have my fingers crossed that the same 24.5gr TAC/69gr Nosler will shoot equally well in the SIG.

Glad the gun turned out well for you, I wish I couldve gotten the barrel off and threaded it for you so you'd be good to go. Definitely looks better with the PST on it than the Leupold it had on it when I got it.

That looks great! I have always been a sig fan, and have been interested in these for a while now. I like seeing groups like that, rekindles my interest....
