So I just got what looks to be a smoking deal on a gun I have been looking for a for a while:

20" .260 Tikka Sporter, Unfired ($1450+ )
6-18 Nikkon Bushmaster MD ($325)
Sako Muzzle Brake ( $150)
Some cheapo 1" mount ($50?)

All for under $1300. Unfired without box.

I wanted a 24", but this deal seemed too good to pass up. Im I really suffering that much from losing 4-6" of barrel?

Most I plan to shoot out to is 1200yds. Going to rip off the nikon and throw another 3-21x50 G2DMR on it.

So was this a good deal or so so?

I don't think you are going to miss much as far as velocity is concerned. I just finished a 260 build on a 20 inch Lilja. Shooting Hunters Shack 123 gr loads that are listed at 2800 fps from a 26 inch barrel and I am clocking 2725-2750. Holding 0.32 to 0.45 inch groups. Great ammo. You got a hell-of-a-deal.

I would like to hear what kind of velocity u get cobracutter, i was on the fence for a while on the 20" vs 24". I ended up with the 24" from euro optic for 1325 or 1350. It will sling 142 @2830 and stack them in the .4s. The only thing done is add pillars, tikka performance steel20 moa rail and a viper hs 6-24. Also converted to LA bolt stop and mags. The oal with 142 s 20 thou off eliminated ai mags. Probably the most comfortable factory stock for positional shooting.

Yea I would have preffered a 24", but that fact that they are rare as hell and desired means they aren't going to come up for sale often. This deal seemed too good to pass up, so I just pulled the trigger. It will also be much easier for hunting and shooting with a can.

I read like 100 fps drop from the 24-20" so thats really nil unless your shooting out past 1200 yards. I figure I can always throw a can on there and get a little extra velocity if I need to.

What brake are you using?

Oh and what are you guys doing for ammo? I see SW has the scenars and SMK's for around 32-35 a box. Any other decent shootable ammo out there for less? I don't mind some cheap (funny for .260 right?) plinking ammo for sighing in and practice under 600 yards.

To be honest, I'd say you scored a killer deal. Not only did you pay fairly well under retail, but you did something even more insurmountable...you found a Tikka Sporter in .260! I remember when I first began looking for a .260, I tried and tried to find a Sporter, to no avail.

That is a sweet ride. She'll probably shoot decently too. Nice score.

Doesn't euro optic still have a bunch? When i ordered mine in feb they acted like they had alot of each caliber/length/right and left hand versions. U got a hell of a good deal anyway u look at it. What made me go 24" was in Il no supressors. My buddy from Indiana has a 30 cal can but it is not the 18x1mm thread that the sporter has. Hated to have my smith turn that down to 5/8-24. I load my own so can't help on the ammo. Other then fgmm,sw, and copper creek i am unsure. Does McCourt munitions do any 260?

So your the one who bought that!! I just seen it but it was already purchased. I was also looking at the 24" lol. Let me know how she shoots!!! Also how do you like the balance and overall feel of it?

In regards to your question, Ive read that the 6.5 creedmoor only looses around 80fps when out of a 20" compared to a 26". Considering that they are ballistic twins this might help :)

+1 on 123gr loads

I shot 3090 123smk out of my 20" .260, only saw pressure signs when extended shooting in 100 degree weather under the direct sun. Rifle being put together is an 18" .260, I am expecting to see 2800-2900 from a 123Amax.
