New (to me) Remington 40X

Over the weekend I won a Remington 40X in 22lr at an estate auction. It was a bit of a risk because there were only two pictures and a pretty sparse description. Price was pretty good.

The description simply said "remington 40X us 22cal" . Pretty sparse. I'm assuming that it is US Property marked from the description.

I hope its U.S. marked; but if it isn't, it's still a gorgeous rifle. Should be a great shooter

If it's engraved "U.S." it's a surplused Army rifle (vice "USMC").

Yours looks like mine from around 2010 -- medium taper barrel and the Remington 700 back-swept bolt handle (as opposed to the straight 721-722 handle).

It should shoot really straight and tight with almost any ammo. I paid the CMP $400 for mine. Yanked it out of the wood stock and had Charlie at Mile High Gunsmithing in Albuquerque bed it into an H-S Varmint stock.

It has a Murphy Precision 20-MOA rail and an SWFA side-focus 10X Super Sniper for scoped work and Centras for iron sight shooting.

My 40X Started life as a NAVY Trainer. If it was a USMC Trainer it will have USMC on the side instead of US.

It made a visit to Modacam Custom Rifles for a Repeater Conversion. I had the action teflon coated and a Mullerworks Barrel installed. It is an absolute dream to shoot & compete with.
