Gonna start reloading 300 BLK subs. Any advice? Mainly wondering what the best projectiles are for plinking and maybe shooting a deer? What is the best way to go about getting brass? I probably want around 500 pieces.

Thanks!

For plinking I picked up some 220 grain seconds from midway. You can get new starline brass for about $60 for 200 or get once fired brass for cheap. If you are looking for a round for hunting at subsonic speeds you’ll need something that will expand reliably at those speeds. There are several bullets designed for subsonic hunting, but I have no experience with them. Hunting with a 300blk at sub speeds, you’ll be limited to about 100 yards and in. I’m sure someone else here could give you more info on hunting with 300blk.

A 110 vmax works very well for hunting deer. The tacx does as well. I wouldn’t personally hunt with subs but if I had to I would use the 194 Lehigh defense maximum defense. Plinking wise there is several options. Cheap 150gr fmj’s or some 200+ grain fmj’s for subs. There is several options. Berrys bullets come to mind.

Refrance: Hodgdon data.

CFEBLK 12.3g
Hornady 190g Sub-X
Brass, any first fired range brass.
(Since there is so much unused case capacity it doesn't seem to matter much as long as its matching headstamps)
Coal 2.050
CCI primers

It's a 1060fps load that won't crack in hot weather.

I zero at 75 yards.
0-80 yards is point blank
90 yards 0.5 mils, 100yd is 0.9 mil I just use first mil dot.
Second mil dot is 125yd, third is 150 and as far as I shoot subs suppressed on game.

Last season it took a whitetail through the heart, ran 40 feet.
Took a hog, head shot instant collapse. Both at 80 yards.

The fancy expanding subsonic bullets are a must if you intend to hunt with subs. They work well for what they are.

The black tip tactx 110 are easily my favorite supersonic projectiles.

Brass is pretty cheap... can be made from 5.56, but buying 500 all ready to go is likely a better use of your time. Starline has worked well for me.

As far as plinkers, coated cast bullets work very well, or just about any flavor of pulled jacketed bullet for supersonic plinkers

So this may give i fo to this thread. Running a 16"1:8 twist barrel pistol length gas system in a AR platform. Have 130 to 168gr bullets to load for subsonics. With imr 4227, imr 4198, cfe blk and h110. Is this a good starting point with my powders i have. From what i have read it should be. I will work a load from high to low to find the sweet spot. I have adj gas block, springs, buffers and low mass bcg to play with if needed

Have gotten where I enjoy hunting with the 300 blackout subsonic s. Using Hornady 190 sub X, Accurate Arms 1680 at 11. Grains. Or factory Hornady 190 subsonic. Shooting a Ruger AR in 300 blackout, 16” barrel, Tion Dragoon suppressor, with a ATN Thor 4 thermal.
