I know they are discontinued, but the Pulsar XG 50 seem like a good deal now. 640 scope. I will probably get some raised eyebrows for this, but I have an Halo XRF and an XG 50 and I find myself gravitating towards the xg50. I have the XG50 on a bolt gun, and the "dayscope" design just works for me. The image is not as good as the XRF, but I don't think the XRF's image is 6k better, that's for sure.
Part of the reason for the XRF frustration is the weird shutting down thing (have to take batteries out) and the fact the goddamn rangefinder only seems to work about half the time now.
As someone on the Hide alluded to, thermals are really expensive pieces of electronics on top of recoiling rifles, exposed to the environment at times. They are fun as shit, but be prepared to be disappointed when they don't perform.
Much like a high end hooker, they often equate to a really expensive (and fun) few hours, followed by disappointment and regret.
