So I haven’t posted much in a while but I’m onto a new build and wanted to toss my idea out there so I don’t overlook something.
First off the history, this hunting season my main rifle kicked the bucket aka the trigger is acting up and I lost all faith so I switched to a toy I build a few years back. 6x45 in a tikka action with a XLR chassis and a 1-8 twist shillen 20” heavy barrel. I was a bit sceptical at first but I shot two northern Canada whitail deer both at 200/250 yards and I was extreamly impressed by the rifles performance with 95gr VLDs. So I am thinking of building a ultra light rifle with the 6x45. So I am starting with a Sako carbon light in 223
stock, action, bottom metal, trigger all factory. I’m am going to take off the barrel put on a ultralight Hart with diamond fluting 1-8 finished to 20”. Then I will get the bolt/ mag and action skeletonized.
The Sako mag is a bit shorter than what I have in my tikka so OAL and case capacity will be a small issue. I am trying to get this gun under 5lbs without optics.
I am hung up on what contour to use but I am defiantly doing the diamond flute. Hart says they don’t like fluting anything less than a #3 Douglas. I don’t have any experience with ultra light rifles everything I own is 10lbs and over so any input ideas or brainwaves would be appreciated.
Thanks
