Well if you watch my last coyote video, you will know my buddy Frank missed a called in yote.

So we went out this morning before first light. Me armed with my trusty camcorder...and Frank with his short barreled Tikka T3 in .243.

Below is a video of how it turned out.

Take care,Stan

First off no disputing that the dog was dead on impact, that thing went down really quick!
Being here in England we don't get any yotes and I was wondering if the tail waggling thing it did is just nerves or something? Like a chicken flapping it's wings after you neck it.

A fact of life (and death)...most mammals do not ever die "instantly" outside of a head shot.
The brain will have life left in it for a bit. The reason that yote went down so fast was it hit in the spine. The bullet entered its center chest, destroying the heart and lungs, and angled up and out its mid backbone.

So what you see is the nervous system still trying to function while the coyote was bleeding out internally but was paralyzed by the spine hit.

Most yotes we shoot will run (read flop around, bite at the impact site, etc.) or move for 10-20 seconds even when shot through the heart and lungs. They need to bleed out.

As most hunters will tell you....this is normal. I have personally witnessed deer run for 1/4 + mile when shot through the vitals.
It is not bad shot placement...just the way mammals are built.

Take care,Stan

Yeah, I've seen deer run before and know that they rarely go down instantly. I'm just not familiar with yotes, but thank you for clarifying.
