A newbie here, checking in from Arizona.

I've had my share of semiauto handguns and always loved going to the ranges or out in the desert to enjoy shooting. I always wanted to get into long distance shooting and my dad just gave me a left handed Ruger M77 Mark 2. Well 2 trips to the range and 60 rounds later, I'm hooked. Now intensely looking into buying a Remington 700 and building myself a decent rig, right handed of course.

During my initial research on accurate bolt action rifles Sniper's Hide forums kept popping up on my searches... So here I am. Look forward into learning more from the community.

Welcome. BEWARE!!! Very addicting and expensive, but if you research and buy wisely you can have a blast. Not sure I would start with a build. Many good bolt rifles frow Savage in all calibers shoot well out of the box. Would recommend starting with 223 due to ammo cost unless you can reload. Good used rifles for sale here in the Sales Section for good prices, but most are Custom, so still very expensive. Have fun and be safe.

Welcome to the hide Todd. I wish I would have gotten into LR precision shooting at an early age. Wasn't until I was in my 40s that the addiction took hold. The Remi 700s are a good platform if you want to get something good 'out of the box' that you can customize to your specific needs / tastes as you get more funds.

Well I got my new Remington 700. After seeing pictures online of the model 85541, I had to have one. Picked it up from the local FFL on Tuesday. Wednesday bedded the Weaver rail. Today torqued everything down. And Saturday will be at Ben Avery getting it dialed in.
