Hey Everyone, great site/forum!
My gun journey started about a month ago, the reason for that is simple. Although South Africa is a beautiful place the crime is really getting worse day by day. On top of that is the violent nature of crimes committed in South Africa. With that being said the trouble one has to go through to get a firearm licence is so hectic that most people don't even bother getting a gun. Some people applied more that two or three years ago and are still awaiting for approval from the government. My first gun that I bought a month ago is a Glock 23 for self defence. Now I have to wait for the approval of this licence. As a civilian I'm only allowed to have one weapon for self defence weather it's a pistol, shotgun or rifle. If I need or want a second firearm I need to motivate it as a sport shooting firearm when applying for my second firearm licence. Should I be lucky enough to get a second firearm licence as a civilian I'm still limited to only 4 firearms (1 for self defence and 3 for sport shooting or hunting). The only way to bypass this limit as a civilian is to achieve dedicated status as a sport shooter or as a dedicated hunter. On top of this the prices of firearms are insane, to give you an example if paid almost $1000 for my Glock 23 an enrty level Remington 700 will set u back in the region of $1600 - $2000.
So with all that said I'm hoping to learn as much as possible from this site/forum as I can while I wait for my licence to be approved.
