Can anyone provide advice on cheap or well priced .308 Winchester for target shooting out to 900 yards? I am on a tight budget and want to get the best bang for the buck. Also would appreciate any information on suppliers with best prices. Going the other way would also like to get views on best factory ammo. Sadly not set up and due to deployments don't get time for reloading. Thanks in advance for the help.

Copper Creek, Southwest Ammo, & Mcourt Munitions are prolly the top three here. Federal gets my vote as far as factory bc I've had good experience w/this in my rifle but wouldn't hesiitate to go withe 3 vendors aforementioned. Bottom line is don't cheap out on ammo if you expect any type of positive results at 900 yards. At that distance everything matters.

learn how to reload..... one of the best things my father ever passed down to me... think about it you make custom ammo built for your rifle using what ever bullet you want.... with 168 smk mill brass and imr 4350 @49gr i put together 20 rounds for less than $10....and thats more accurate and more consistant than factory match ammo....
craigslist for reloading equipment is a great way to get into equipment cheap....but just remember attention to detail is key here

I got no problems with any of those things/folks, but that's not what comes to mind when folks are talking precision marksmanship and extended distances.
Bottom line, cheap ammo is a waste of bore life. I save my bore life for significant applications.
The vendors mentioned above enjoy excellent comment here on The 'Hide, and I'll add my name to their fans. The suggestions about handloading also make excellent sense, but to get the real cost savings, you need to do it quite a bit before you recoup the initial outlay.
As a means to accuracy, handloading cannot be beaten. It, and usually only it, will allow you to match good rifles to the ammo that realizes their true accuracy potential.

I stand by Federal Sierra match kings. been paying about $21 per 20. Your bullet weight needs to match your twist for 900, hope ya have that sorted. Stability calcs are all over, look for that to be sure. That being said my friends rifle is made for 1000yds, 11.25 twist, throws Sierra BTHP 175 grains.
I work with a Guard sniper. He says, "you cant buy a score" meaning up YOUR game before buying equipment that is better than you. Buck a bullet for Federal Sierra Matchking is a KILLER deal. You will do everything you need with that, no use spending $35 a box on anything else.
