Newbie primer question

Re: Newbie primer question

I think the main problem is that small rifle primers are thicker in the cup than small pistol primers.
This makes a rifle primer able to stand higher pressure but is harder to dent than a pistol primer.
I would not interchange them for that reason as reliability might suffer.

Re: Newbie primer question

If it was fesible, I'm pretty sure primer makers would have standardized on primers that are suitible for both rifle and pistol. Since they haven't, it seems pretty clear to me they should only be used as labelled.

Re: Newbie primer question

This is a problem I've been noticing, people get desperate and want to experiment due to a shortage of components. Someone is going to get hurt!

Ditto:

There was a guy at our club that did that and punctured the primer! Major blow back! Messed up his bolt face and ruined his firing pin!

Avoid it!

Luckily he did not get injured he was wearing glasses!
