Suppressors Newly Acquired AAC M4/2000

I just received my AAC M4/2000 and put it on the M4. The M4 is a mutt - Rock River lower with a DPMS Upper but it does shoot well. I put on a Geissele SSA trigger and combined with the Leupold CQT it is now a nice weapon. I have not shot the suppressor but I do plan on making a trip to the range this weekend to re-zero the rifle with the suppressor on it. Four months waiting on the stamp and that is about the same as my last on so maybe a theme is emerging or just a coincidence.

M4-2000 is a quick detach. I have one on my Colt 6933 and it is GTG.

I've yet to shoot my AR without a supressor on since I got mine.

Here is a tip:
Use Mobile 1 synthetic to keep your BCG wet.
It works well under extreeme pressure and floats contaminates out of the way.

Also, if you haven't invested in a PRI GasBuster, order one today...

Dr. Phil, good tips and I will order one. I have a Gemtech HVT that I shoot on a DPMS SASS and I found out the hard way about the gas situation.

The AAC uses a Quick Detach Mount: The suppressor threads on to the mount and is locked in place by a detent spring. I have heard people saying to put two paint marks on the system; one for the suppressor and the other on the barrel to ensure that two maintain the mate up on the threads to reduce the chance of a bullet strike.

I would recommend doing research on PRI charging handle failure then make your choice. I have seen two fail at the pin and there is plenty of anecdotal info out there to make an informed decision.

My 6933 is my bedside gun so I want rock solid components in it.

There is a red RTV trick (search the AR forums) you can do to mitigate gas in the face on factory and aftermarket charging handles. I like the BCM Gunfighter myself.

I also run a gasbuster charging handle.

haven't had a problem yet, but like every other part of course it could break.

FYI all the M4-2000's are QD
I would highly recommend a Gas Buster charging handle when running a can on a DI rifle. You will get gassed. WEAR EYE PROTECTION!

GasBuster CHs are good pieces of kit.

I have personally broken the latch pin on one GasBuster. It was on a suppressed, short barrel, full-auto gun that was run VERY hard in a training class. On day two I had some stuck cases from bad surplus Guat ammo. I had to "pogo stick" the rifle a few times to clear cases. I switched over to different ammo (and a different GB charging handle from my backup rifle) after I finally snapped the roll pin in the latch. The abuse I put that GB through before the failure would have killed a standard CH long before my GB roll pin snapped.

That said, I have broken the latch pins several times (into double digits) with standard charging handles. I've also bent the standard pot metal CHs on occasion. You won't do that with the forged GB.

Not sure what bad reputation some folks might think about the GBs, but I think highly of them and use them on all my 5.56 caliber ARs.

Sotexhunter, looks nice - I will have to take mine through the paces too and see what happens. I just built for the first time my 308 Subsonic rounds last weekend and have been having fun with them so I know I can look forward to building 223 subs too.

I'm sure you know already, but if you don't, read up on 223 subs before you jump in and run some through your new suppressor. Lots of people out there say its not worth the hassle and risk on a 223, to go subsonic. But if you do..... please post up your results, good or bad.

Looks great JSTARSZ! Damn I want one soooo bad. My upper came with the 51 tooth blackout mount and I just havent been able to get around to setting up a trust and gettin one.

I have a friend that has been working 223 subs and he has parted some of his wisdom to me on the issue but I agree it takes lots of research and patience to work subs. Quality control is a must.

What route did you go, trust or individual, and who was your examiner? I only ask because I have a SPR/M4 on a form 4 individual pending since May 24th with Barbra Payne as my examiner. I would sure like to have it about now.

Also, has your friend had any luck getting the action to cycle with sub rounds? I know its possible but haven't heard of much success in doing so with reloads.

I believe Form 4's are doing about 4 months right now. I am waiting on a Noveske SBR to do the Form 3 transaction to my Class 3 so I can start another Form 4 journey...waiting on three cans as well. Unfortunately, I don't think anything will be ready for me by the time my R&R ends at the end of December, but that would be nice.

Great can. Love mine. I run mine on my LWRC M6 10.5". I don't use a gasbuster, or any special charging handle, I just wear Revision goggles. Even with a piston upper, the blowback makes my eyes water after a while.

I did an individual transfer and the examiner was Ted Clutter. It approved on Monday, 23 August and was mailed on the 26th and at my dealer on the 27th. Since I am in Virginia I do imagine that it only takes it a day to get here.

The 223 subs that I was given are below and supposedly is does cycle his AR with M4/2000 on it. I have not tried it.

Wolf small mag primer
10.4 gr 2400 powder
75 gr Privi Partizan BTHP

Load cycles my 16" with the AAC suppressor on.

I took the M4/2000 out for a ride today. It was very pleasant to shoot and just needed foam plugs in for my ears. I took my reloads with me - 69 SMK's in 25 Gr AA 2460. It came in at 2 inches low from non-suppressed so I zeroed the Leupold CQT. I was shooting at a 3 inch paster at a 100 yards and was able to stay within the paster. The CQT's dot at 100 yards covers the 3" paster so it could be better with a different optic.

There was some blow back but not enough to bother me. Of course it did make a mess out of the brass - dirty looking.

I have to say without a doubt that is was worth the money spent. The sound is reduced to a 22 LR with a sonic bullet crack from the bullet. I couldn't see any muzzle flash and the recoil was little to almost not even noticeable. Not that a 223 has a lot of recoil but it was reduced even more.

I recommend the AAC M4/2000 to anyone that is looking for a suppressor for their AR.
