Well, if money isn't a concern, I'd say Nightforce all the way.
You may consider the Leupold's FFC reticle to be a plus, and many do; but I'm am one of the minority that prefers SFP reticles. My opinion, for what its worth, is that the Nightforce is built better than the Leupold. Has better tracking and the eye relief is constant.
If the Nightforce is in your price range, you might want to consider an IOR if FFP is a must for you. I've only had my hands on a few IORs, but they did seem nice. I wouldn't give up my Nightforce for one though; but that is just personal preference.

Choosing between just those two, I would choose whether you want FFP or not, and that would be the deciding factor. Personally I would go with the Leupold. I have a Mk4 that, despite all the bad press on the internet, has been the shit, and the only reason I didn't go for one of their FFP's was that I got a screaming deal on a USO..

Like others have said if price and FFP isn't a concern go with NF. I was looking between the NF and MK4 but the NF i was looking at was the 2.5-10. Well i can't stomach the NF having a 32mm objective lens, if it just had 40mm i would jump on it. So i've settled on a MK4 for about 1000-1300 depending on the prices i can find. While i think NF is a better scope, i believe leupold catches a lot of unnecessary crap. While there are certainly better options, leupold is by no means a bad choice. From my experience i can't say i've had a bad leupold. I run a USO on my .308 and a zeiss on my .260, but my father has all leupolds and they do just fine. I was reminded that they're a good scope when i shot with a friend last weekend and looked through his 6.5-20x50mm. Check and see which has features that you like and a price that your comfortable with and get one. You can't go wrong with either.

i know this isn't in the question but i would get the bushnell 6x24x50 ffp mil/mil for under a grand. i know the money isn't an issue for you, second i would take the leupold, third the nxs, but nxs have never been a fanboy of theres (not that they are bad just my stigmatism in my eyes doesn't get along with there paralax).
rich your beater is probably nicer than my match rifle.

I went round and round for months trying to make this same decision. I ended up buying through ProMotive and went with the Leupold deal. My "budget" shrank in the middle of the build. I'd had good luck with Leupold in the past so the MK4 was my choice.
Back to the OP, considering what you're able to get from Leupold for the money, FFP 8.5-25x50 TMR and I assume hopefully M5 then I think it's a good deal. If I would have spent a little more then that's the same scope I would have ordered, instead I went 6.5-20x50 M1 w/TMR.

What I like is that the FFP on the Leupy is cheap enough that if the glass quality isnt that good atleast its still a FFP scope. The rifle is a MWS so no need for a SB. Recently I just got a new NXS with HSZS turrets and though it was a descent scope it was NOT FFP and there for somebody on here got a good deal from me. I think this round Im gonna try the Leupy and see what happens. It will be Mil/Mil but no ZS but what the hell its not like I will be shooting matches with the rifle.

Yeah if you want FFP leupy is the way to go on this one. For the price of NF FFP with zero stop and illumination you might as well get a USO. Not bashing NF, if i had it to do over again and was going to buy a FFP scope around 2200+ i would go USO all over again.
Only gripe i have with FFP leupold is no illumination which really bothers me. Because for my SPR i wanted FFP and illumination. I've come to terms with going SFP for the SPR though. I can still Mil and use hold overs at max power which is the only time i'll be using hold overs is for max power usage beyond 400yds. But i do love FFP.

What about the new IOR? It has received a lot of praise, can be had in ffp, is cheaper than the Nightforce, and has better glass than both of the scopes you mentioned/

MWS as in LMT MWS? I would get something in ~10X. IOR, NF, Leupold, USO, hell you could get a 10X PM2 if you really wanted to.
I have an 18" 308 AR and it wears an IOR 3-18. It's a bit much on that rifle but then the rifle itself is a fat pig anyways.

I'm with both of you. My rig won't see any hard core matches but only an occasional F-class shoot, field hunting and no real rough use so the Leupold will be just fine. That's just me being honest to myself. I don't need the latest & greatest most current fad item while trying to keep up with the Jones's but just a good middle of the road scope that will do as needed for its intended purpose.
The fact that Leupold hasn't made a change to their current line regarding illumination with FFP sucks. Until they change the location of it, FFP and illumination on the current Mk4 just isn't happening. Maybe to the new 34mm tubed Leupold has seen the changes needed. Then it's not a comparison of apples to apples anymore as they are not just different animals but 2 different worlds.
Like I said in my original post, for me and my purpose the Leupold was my pick when weighing out all the details and end cost. Sure NF would have been nice along with S&B. I've had USO before and they are excellent (yes it's tough going backwards regarding glass) but the budget just wasn't there this time around.
Rifle, glass, and accessories still has me deep into the $4k range. Now where near as money as some folks spend on this site but it's all I can justify for myself.

The thing about the leupold is sure the glass isn't as good as NF, USO etc. But it's more than enough to get the job done. The army has been using it with success for years. Sure it's an old design that is being replaced lately but it's tried and true and at an ok price range compared to it's competitors, it's a valid choice.

I own a Mk 4 Leupy, and for the price and features, and I vote Leupold.
Although I think that's a bit much mag for the MWS. But, your rifle...

Leupy if $$ is a concern or NF if not. You really can't go wrong with either.

As far as I am concerned, Nighforce easily makes better scopes then Leupold.
