12/15/2012, 0830 Mandatory Safety Briefing

Classes: CQB Carbine or Long Range Precision Rifle

Fee: $20 members, $30 guests

Required Equipment:

Carbine: Zeroed, centerfire modern sporting rifle with at least three magazines. Pistol with strong side holster (drop leg is fine but no crossdraw/vests), 100 rounds rifle, 20 rounds pistol. Eye & Ear protection. Chamber safe device (for sale at the club for a buck).

Precision/DMR: 60 rounds of match grade ammunition and all the usual trappings and accoutrements of precision riflery as we practice it.

Online Registration:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDJYUGtRWlBzT0ZHaGNsWUN3TkpLMVE6MQ

December will see a return to a shorter, more CQB oriented CoF for the Carbine side of the house. Max distance should be under 100Y.

For the Precision side, I am still working on the CoF and will post it here when done. Expect some moving targets, pop-ups, work on the steel out to 637Y, and some good old fashioned problem solving.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

You're a mean one. I was there Friday a d the was the reactive target with the damaged center mass and the double disc.

Missing the hole... That should be interesting if there's the same fishtailing wind.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Sounds like fun but going to be down at my brothers in NC that weekend.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

No prob, come round when you can.

I don't have a CoF for the carbine side and probably one won't be published. There is another MD that is doing most of the heavy lifting on the carbine side of the house to free me up to handle the precision side for 2013.

He likes movement and close-up CQB stuff so bring 100 rounds rifle, 20 pistol, 3-4 mags rifle, and at least 2 pistol and you should be G2G.

Just about full? Let me know if I made the cut. It took a while for me to clear out that weekend, then I forgot to register anyway... some days are like that!

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Hi Shooters,

We will be running a brief side match on 12/15 after the conclusion of our regular reindeer games. Half the proceeds go to the winner, the other half will go to a 501c3 charity, HeroesOfTomorrow.org.

Participation is of course optional.

Heroes Of Tomorrow is run by Stew Smith, a retired US Navy SEAL. On his own time, and without compensation Stew trains prospective US Special Operations candidates (I read this as 'kids') to prepare them for success in the rigorous training programs they are headed to. All of the money goes toward buying the equipment needed, and offsetting fees for their use of swimming pools and gyms.

His program works, and I am sure you will agree that right now we need a whole lot more of the type of person Stew is working so hard to develop.

Here is how the side match will work:

We will all fire at a single, standard B27 target, one at a time. The target will be pulled after each shot, and the hits will be individually marked with who fired them. No information as to who is the closest will be revealed until nobody wishes to purchase any more rounds.

The cost will be $5.00 per shot.

There is no limit to the amount of shots you may fire.

When there are no more takers, the contest will be declared closed. Whomever has fired the closest round to the center, wins half the pot. The other half goes to HeroesOfTomorrow.org.

I hope you decide to participate because I would love to make this a regular thing. Let's see how much fun it is. ;-)

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Remember the way we're doing it...

You won't know where ANY of your shots went until the game is over!

I will point out (thanks to sled for the idea!) that we will keep track of the numbered shot for each shooter. So if you are shooter "F" you shots (should they be contenders) will be marked F1, F2, F3....

So if you want to get people to "sponsor" a shot for five bucks, you will know at the end which one of your shots was the winner.

I don't need to know any of that, it's between you and the person who gave you the money. Like - If Jocko gives me $15, I mark him down for shots 1,2 & 3. I put my own five bucks in, so I own shot 4. If 1 2 or 3 are the winner, I won the money for Jocko.

I'm just selling shots...You come in with forty bucks, you are firing eight shots in eighty seconds. If one of them winds up being the closest, we will tell you exactly which shot it was once the contest is over.

There is a stage on the CoF reflecting a similar exercise to this. I'm getting a lot of good buzz... This will now replace that stage.

Remember to bump your round count up accordingly by how many shots you intend to fire.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Yuppers - That's pretty much what we're going to do, but in a way that the shooters cannot plot any of the shot falls until it is over.

The shooter and # only need to be recorded if the shot has bested the previous best shot. That's the part that makes it go fast.

I will be pumping this up with a huge amount of chop busting and comic relief too. We will have a<span style="font-style: italic"> <span style="font-weight: bold">great</span> </span>time with this.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Sure it is.

I wouldn't call it gambling since it (notionally) isn't really a random chance thing, but yeah, no problem. I may have a cancellation for the match as well. If so you are first in line.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Sponsorship going well. One day netted $60, and I haven't even opened my own wallet yet!

Looks like I'll have to load some extra before next weekend! I didn't expect the first few people to kick in as much as they did. But it is or a good cause, so I'll go with it.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

heck I Pledge another 60 bucks out of my pocket to sled AKA Steve as I have to work next saturday and can't be there GO STEVE KICK THAT BUTT

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Nice job Hank!

Keep it comin'!

I got sponsored for five shots at a Christmas party last night. I was instructed that if one of his shots wins, I am to take out a few bucks to buy myself a beer, and donate the rest back.

I think I might just fib a little and donate it all back. I can buy own beer.....

I am really looking forward to this. It's going to be a lot of fun, and we are supporting a really great cause.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Been lurking here on the hide for a long while so today I created my account. I live in the area and would love to come and observe to see how things are. Down the road I do plan to participate. Still gathering equipment & gear needed to put lead in the air. Good luck to all.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Palehorse - be honest, you were just waiting to join to have the join date of 12/12/12.

Just kidding. Welcome to forum.

Please do come out and introduce yourself. We're a friendly bunch. If you are still gathering equipment, a match like this is a good place to see what people are using, and have a chance to get your hands on some of it to get an idea if it will work for you. Don't hesitate to ask questions.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Thx Sled...I didn't think about it until after I was reading through the forum. I figured what the hell..might as well make it memorable..haha. I am curious to see what everyone is using as well as how the match sequence goes. I've never been to one and want to see everything from start to finish. I've been working in A-stan since I retired from active duty Army last year and I got the long range shooting bug and figured I would give myself a nice retirement present. I'm still waiting for it to come in and can't wait to put some lead in the air. I bought a FNH A5M 20" fluted and a NightForce NXS F1 (MLR2.0 reticle). I also bought a AAC Cyclone but of course won't be able to use it until I get the stamp back. I hope I can get out this weekend and come watch, but either way I will soon be joining NHPRC because it's the only place that has 600yds and from what I have read and heard, it is a very nice facility with good people. Would be nice if someone opened up a 1000yd range in the area..if I ever win the lottery that will be one of the first things I do..lol Good luck and I look forward to meeting some good folks.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

I see the safety brief starts at 0830. What time does it usually end ? I have a previous engagement later in the afternoon that I promised the wife. I hope I can catch the whole match but if I have to punch out early I'm sure there will be more in the future to attend. The Mason-Dixon shoot does look like a lot of fun. Thanks.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

I'll be sponsoring the old man for this one Feddy, I'll send some cash with him for old buck shot. Make sure that target is far. Maybe we should add this to the Mason Dixon Sniper Series.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

We usually wrap up anywhere from 1-4pm.

The Mason Dixon Sniper Series is the same sort of match we always do, combined with another set of them at another club not far away. It's a two-club series, and features completely different but both really cool takes on this sort of shooting.

You will thoroughly enjoy it.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Hope today went well. Wished I could have made it, but my daughters wanted me to be home with them. Looking forward to the future opportunities to put some rounds down range.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Freddy,
Thanks for a great match yesterday. I really appreciate the good weather you scheduled for us! Challenging COF and even though I didn't shoot as well as I could have, I had a great time and enjoyed watching/learning from others. I have to add that your opening prayer for the victims and families of the Conn. school shooting was both heartfelt and beautifully done. If we all cared a little more, and had a little more SA about the people around us maybe we (not they or them) could stop this from happening in the future. Thanks again for all your hard work and I'll be in touch.
Mike

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Thanks!

We always start with a prayer for our troops and first responders, but I felt compelled to gather us in prayer for the victims and their families. I am so happy everyone decided to join me.

This was one of the more frustrating and challenging CoF's I think I have come up with at NHRPC. I don't shoot the stuff I come up with first. I conceive it and we all try it together.

REALLY surprised on the movers scores with the collateral damage and 600Y ambush stages. Many of us thought we were crushing it but oh no......

Here's the scores. Let's start thinking about January guys. We messed up a lot of stuff on this one and many of us need to redeem ourselves....

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Great shoot as always Freddy. Had a great time and was able to sort out some old issues and...uncover some new ones. The charity side match was a fantastic idea and it looks like we raised a nice chunk of change for herosoftomorrow.org. Looking forward to next year and a lot more rounds down range.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Great match Freddy!

There were definitely some challenges there that were harder than they looked!

I really regret missing that movers clinic last month. I can not find my lead with this rifle at 600 yards. I might have to bring my bolt gun to the next match just to convince myself I can still hit the 600 yard movers.

And that cold more shot.... yep, I let myself mind screw myself on the first shot. At least I knew what I did and corrected for the second. But that is exactly what these matches are about!

I really did like the mover stages. The little twist kept it interesting, challenging, and fun!

What was the final amount raised for the charity shoot?

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Thanks again guys for being my guinea pigs that I test all this crazy shit out on.
wink.gif

I swear, if I told you all to low crawl 600Y and stab the B27 in the eye with a toothpick you guys would ask <span style="font-style: italic">"when are we gonna do that again?" </span>

But seriously, I was happy with the CoF. It had a lot of variety, and I am paying close attention to the type of shots that are really being taken by guys downrange and modeling the matches to include that as much as possible. As usual I tried to balance the CoF out so that some stages favored bolt guns, and others favored a semi.

We all know the days of a sniper going out of the wire with a bolt gun and a pack of crackers in his pocket are long gone. But from what I am hearing, so are the days of laying on your belly and staying in one spot for long periods of time.

The regular crew seems to appreciate this. This does not mean we are going super-ninja. I am still going to have some traditional stuff in every match because it helps newer shooters ease into it and improve. If we ever wind up with no new people coming out, we will become the next dying sport of grouchy old bastards.

Thanks again for the huge work on the charity shoot Sled, and everyone else who participated. Checks are going out this week to Heroes Of Tomorrow.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

Update:

Stew was extremely thankful for your help with the charity shoot guys.

Final amount: $680.00!!!! Checks are on the way.

Everyone who participated is getting a Heroes Of Tomorrow shirt.

He's only got up to XL, so I did my best to estimate sizes, and I will distribute them as I see you all in upcoming matches.

I enjoyed this portion of it, and we will do it again. Help me come up with a way that the carbine folk can play too.

Re: NHRPC CARBINE/PRECISION/DMR MATCH 12/15/12 GAP PA

As usual Fargo, very well laid out match with a COF that could flex with the conditions. I always learn something when I shoot your matches. Movers where challenging but addictive - yeah let's do it again. The charity stage was a good addition - I checked out "Heroes of Tomorrow" and they look like a great organization - Happy to contribute to their cause.

Yessir. 4.5 MILS. I will leave the distance and whether that was height or width to the imagination, but yeah, my MIL DOT MASTER says that's an XL.
