Hi,

Registration for the April match is open.

Precision/DMR CoF is posted, Carbine to follow. Remember to bring extra rounds in case a crossfire occurs and you are either the actor or the victim. Both will have to re-shoot the stage. Starting from now on, the crossfiring shooter will be docked 50 points, under the rubric that every other target than yours is a bystander/no-shoot.

Info and registration at:

Re: NHRPC Gap, PA Precision, SDM, & carbine match 4/23

I'm signed up for the precision shoot. I'll be visiting relatives for the weekend, so I won't be able to carpool with any of the other NY shooters, but hope to meet some of you.

Anyone in the Allentown/Schnecksville area wants to hook up for the ride, let me know.

Good call on the crossfire rule Freddy. Unfortunately sometimes it's not accidental and is another shooter trying to help his friend score higher. I have seen it more than once at matches from people you woulkdn't believe if I told you.

Thanks bro. I need to discourage it. It eats up a lot of time and frustration for all involved. Both the shooters, guys in the pit, and me running things on a very tight schedule.

The CF's we had were straight up confusion and pure accidental. What you are describing is horrifying. I think the guys that know me can forecast how I would respond if I detected that.

Friendly request - I'm considering buying a Bushnell Fusion bino/rangefinder. I would like to have a look through a set before dropping the coin. If anyone has one and would be willing to bring it out that day, I'd be very greatful.

Thanks.

I just ordered one. Time to retire my old leupold.

If it arrives by then I will bring it, but the stuff I hear about this unit is incredible. There's a video out there that's rather convincing as well.

The May 28th clinic is on. It's the next thing on our plate and we are ready and looking forward to it too.

Re: NHRPC Gap, PA Precision, SDM, & carbine match 4/23

I am in no rush. If yours doesn't arrive this week, I can wait till the end of May.

Thanks.

ETA - This coming weekend will be my first match. I've got the following items ready-
Rain gear (hopefully not needed)
eye/ear pro
ammo
rifle
bipod
sling
shooting mat
dope chart

Anything I am not thinking of?

Will we be ranging targets through the scope before shooting, or are distances given?

This will be my first match of this type, I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks.

It's a KD range so there won't be any UKD shooting at this one. Even so I would recommend figuring out the distance on your own by counting berms or eyeballing the obvious. It gets old when we're obviously at a certain yardage and there's 'that guy' who asks three different people how far away the targets are.

I would add a rucksack to carry all your stuff.

Also, make sure your dope card has walking speed mover leads on it.

And for the guys with mismatched reticle & knobs (e.g. mildot reticle and MOA knobs) make sure your card has values for both units of measure so you can dial or hold over.

Re: NHRPC Gap, PA Precision, SDM, & carbine match 4/23

I'm trying to ask questions now, so that I'm not "that guy" at the range. But I have no doubt, at some point in the day, I'll ask a question that will make me "that guy". I'll do my best to avoid it.

That being said, if any of the experienced shooters would be willing to mentor me through the day, at least enough to keep me out of trouble, I'd appreciate the help.

I'm sure I will learn a lot and have a good time on Sat.

Thanks.

Nah,

It usually takes the same question multiple times to get your forehead stamped. I don't see that coming from you at all.

I am working on the June 25th match at MCSA. Lots of improvements from the last one, and a very dynamic CoF.

Re: NHRPC Gap, PA Precision, SDM, & carbine match 4/23

Match is a go for tomorrow.

Since it's gonna rain we will not pit. There is a new 'Foul Weather' CoF out. Available at the link above. We will be firing SBU prone out to 400Y, and other 'vertical' positions out to 600Y, so don't forget to run your dope accordingly.

I got some questions on SBU, and we are defining it this way: The rifle is rolled over a full 90 degrees, either bolt up or bolt down (depending on LH/RH shooter and LH/RH actions). Doesn't matter which way you go as long as is 90 degrees. We will decide tomorrow based on conditions whether we will shoot this stage off rucks, or kneeling behind a bench.

Re: NHRPC Gap, PA Precision, SDM, & carbine match 4/23

Well,

No rain, but due to visibility (200Y max most of the day) we could not shoot precision. Carbine shot with no issue all day.

Sled, Jason and I stuck around for a while and worked on target detection through the incredibly thick fog. It was (at least for me) worth the trip to be able to stay on the gun, watching the 300 and 400Y line for slight breaks in the fog bank, and when an edge of a target could be picked up, we engaged it. The breaks were literally momentary; You had perhaps a five second window to get it together and send, or it was GONE.

Eventually we were able to get out to 500Y by watching for these slight breaks, and rung the ass off the 8" and the BHTC 24hx16w sil target out there.

It turned out to be a very valuable training opportunity; one that actually couldn't be duplicated or predicted. A white target vanishing and reappearing in the fog, revealing only part of itself, and for indeterminate periods of time. You had to make a judgment call to either wait until more edges of it came into view, or engage now, based only on what you have.

Sled and I also ran the CBS off the post and we both hit it. I believe he picked up a useful new trick for that too. ;-)

Re: NHRPC Gap, PA Precision, SDM, & carbine match 4/23

No doubt about it - I'm glad I waited for the fog to lift!

Yes, that was a useful trick, but more important was the lesson in mindset. I need to be able to think in new ways about solving the problem. Not that I haven't been told that before, but a little reminder is a good thing.

Thanks again for bringing the rangefinder. Once the fog lifted, it showed itself as a very nice unit.

I'll be seeing you all at the end of May!
