We’re looking at buying some updated clip on night vision for our precision rifles. What models do you think are the best? Looking for minimal or hopefully no zero shift, image quality, easy usability, and of course durability. I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Thanks,
Chance

I have owned 2 pvs27s, 2 pvs30s, and an M2124-LR (CVS-LR). Without a doubt, the smallest shift was with the pvs27 and PVS30 units.

The L3 M2124-LR had a different shift based on the cant of the base or mount, so you had to pattern it to each gun. I didn't ever pattern one of the 30s and dropped it on an SP10 out to 870yds.

I believe Terry Cross has some post on the forum where he talks about holding the PVS27 or PVS30 units in front of people while they shoot and not seeing any discernible shift (not clipped on to the rifle).

The CNVD-LR is the lightest that has good magnification range and performance with an L3 tube. The focus lever is awesome and easy to access.

UNS LR A3 (aka PVS-30LW) gives you PVS-30 performance for 30% less weight. Just be aware that some use Elbit tubes and others L3. The Elbit is a good option if you’re going to operate in mixed lighting, while the L3 beats everything in very dark no moon conditions.

PVS-27 re-tubed with an L3 has fantastic light gathering ability with that enormous objective, but it’s pretty heavy and bulky, so you might have to adjust your rifles to mount it properly depending on accessories.

ClipNV-series is pretty lightweight with Elbit tubes and recoil rated for 50BMG.

Dogtown said it well!

I went back to a 27 to remove shift because AI was tired of patterning ally rifles to it. Maybe the problem is I shoot too many rifles at night.

The cnvd-lr is an awesome unit, but it's pretty interesting to see the older green pvs30 (or refurbed pvs26 with the dual batteries) or a pvs27 really hold their ground against the units. You could also drive nails into wood with them and they wouldn't break unless the tube itself goes bad.

What are the benefits of night vision over thermal for a clip on application for coyote hunting.

I can use more magnification clearer and shoot farther with the CNVD-LR than my thermals. Most of the time though I am taking thermals. The NV fails at finding yotes for me.....even switching back and forth from handheld thermal to the NV. The only benefits I see are better ID and clearer with higher magnification both of which are not a need killing yotes.

You have a thermal clip on you would recommend? Budget would be $7500 on the high end
