What drugs did soldiers use in the Vietnam War?

According to a 1971 report by the Department of Defense, 51 percent of the armed forces had smoked marijuana, 31 percent had used psychedelics, such as LSD, mescaline and psilocybin mushrooms, and an additional 28 percent had taken hard drugs, such as cocaine and heroin.

Issued,... wearable,... w/a red back round, Bullshit. Someone was talking out of their ass because their mouth knew better. Please tell me what units back then, had such? Only thing I used & remember w/a red back round was the IR units mounted on a M3 carbine. And those were damn sure not wearable. Could you see weird shit in them, absolutely if you were doing Bangkok Brown, same as out the side of a bird in bright daylight.

They had what the "starlight" scope back then? I believe that's what Chuck Mawhinney got his big string of kills with.
From what I've read in books from guys that were there. It was a green hazy fog looking through it.

Pretty sure that story is BS

That scope was an AN/PVS 2. It was a cut above the IR on a M3, but only if it was not raining or no moon.

Due to lack of sleep on a forced movement I remember seeing bats flying all around and dive bombing the patrol. But I had not slept in 40 some hours. Asked my buddy and he said "fuck no there's no bats".

So yeah..
Seen a guy talk to a bush on a security halt...
