Looking to get a new scope I either want to get a Nightforce 5-22x56 or 8-32x56. I have used both of them before briefly. I am wondering if there is any reason some of you with more experience would sway me one way or another? I will be sharing this scope between a couple different rifles CZ 455 precision trainer, .556 High Caliber sales MK12 MOD1, and also a LWRC REPR. Probably use a GDI mount or something cheaper like the ADM. Most of my shooting is 200 to 800 yards at steel plates or paper targets. Any reason you guys would suggest one over the other?

I have both, the 8-32 will give you a little more magnification, the cost of this is less elevation travel in the turret. You won't always we be able to use the increased magnification due to mirage. I don't see that it's any easier to see bullet holes with the 32vs22. I shoot 1000 with a 22x just fine. I'd go with the 5-22.

Thanks, That's exactly the kind of stuff I don't know. I just can't decide between the two. Partly because I have had an S&B 5-25 on for a long long time now that I am going to use for my bolt guns. Already have a GDI mount for it from when they did the group buy. Hopefully it will come soon I'm ready for something other than the 3-15's I'm running now.

I personally think that 20* magnification is a good amount any more and i start having trouble with mirage, mirage inst so bad if your at the rang or plinking infact its a fun challenge but if your long-range hunting the extra mirage will probably hinder your performance. me personally im holding out for the new night force with a first focal plane and extra magnification

I have both. Tried to hunt one year with the 8-32. Was good until the light gave out and I was finished early. One other problem I have with the 8-32 is forgetting what power I'm on if I want to hold over, whereas the 5-22 you just turn it all the way up.

I know these are minor issues, but just things I have noticed.

Ah yes, for ranging or hold overs, both scopes are indexed at 22x. On the 5-22, just crank it all the way up. On the 8-32, you have to find 22x.

Thanks for the help guys! I'll just stick with the 5-22. I was kind of leaning to the 8-32 just because I have never had a scope with that high of magnification.

I have both and as was said above more adjustment with 5-22 and less power for closer shots, the plus to the 8-32 is after 1000 yards. I have hunted with both and have not issues with either but if you do most of your shooting under 1000 the 5-22 is the better choice. I did shoot a moose in Alaska at 50 yards with the 8-32 in the rain and fog. Not the best choice but was how it happened.

A moose at 50 with a 32 power scope...Love it! I bet you hunt bear with a 80 power march scope. Jealous of your address...I lived in Whitefish a couple years. I sure do miss it out there.
