Re: Nightforce Benchrest 12-42x56...enough MOA adj?
I beg to differ with previous posts indicating you will be fine out to 1000 yd with the NF BR's 40 MOA total elevation. I ran your projectiles and estimated velocities through JBM and come up with elevation settings at 1000 yd in the neighborhood of 37 MOA (208s) and 38 MOA (168s) from a 100 yd zero.
With a 20 MOA base and a max of 20 MOA up in the scope (1/2 total elevation travel), that would only give you 40 MOA total and you'd be very close to maxing out your elevation travel. This could also have the added negative effect that the optics of the scope may not be optimal with the elevation adjustment that close to the extreme limit. Chances are pretty good that you would realistically have more like 37-39 MOA total upward elevation travel after zeroing at 100 yd. You'd be at the extreme limit for that scope using the loads you mentioned, or possibly even run out of elevation travel.
Another issue worth mention is that if you were indicating Sierra 168s, they're not going to get you much past 700-800 yds due to their instability issues. Hopefully, you meant the A-MAX 168s, which fly much better. In any event, for shooting to 1000 yd with the fairly slow muzzle velocities you mentioned, I would suggest either the NXS 8-32x56 or even 12-42x56, both of which have more elevation (65 MOA and 45 MOA, respectively) available than does the BR model.
