Shooters,
The Nightforce ELR Steel Challenge match at Q Creek will not be a PRS points match this year. The date will be June 14-16 2019. 14th will be an ELR-C world record challenge, sight in and data confirmation. With some prior coordination with Tad Anderson you will have the opportunity to P-dog hunt on the other 500,000 acres of the Ranch that isn't being used for the competition.
With much thought and some tough decisions we are going to try to capture different segments of the market and really pursue the roots, traditions, future and potential of long range hunting. As well as bring some of the dedicated ELR competitors into a field style match.
I’ve been thinking about changing the format of the ELR match in WY for quite some time. The match format as it currently exist does not really fit in with the traditional style PRS or NRL or ELR type format. The date has been slid to the right one week in order to de-conflict with the Utah Dog Valley NRL match. The big changes to the format there will no longer be a caliber or speed restriction minus the really big stuff like 50s. The restrictions will be weight based in keeping with Idaho modern rifle rule with one exception you will be able to have electronic attached to your rifle. Scoring will be radically different as well. We are going to a 2-1 scoring system with 80 ish planned engagements. The competitor will get 2 chances at each target. Once the target is hit the target is considered neutralized and the competitor will move on to the next target. First round impact will be worth 2 points and second round impacts will be worth 1 point. For the hunter class competitors we will follow Idaho laws concerning the weight of the rifle. Everything attached to the rifle when shooting is part of the rifle and 16 pounds is the max weight which include bags velcro'ed to the rifle, data cards, everything, minus ammo. Anything heavier than 16 lb will be an open class gun. No 50 BMGs but anything else is good to go. Targetry will remain very similar with an average shot distance of 1100 yards, targets are mostly animal shapes or vital zone sized geometric shapes and will range from 600 to 2100 yards
We are going to go all out on the prize table and a % based cash payout to the top shooters.
The Q creek is very remote. Lunches and water will be provided.
Lodging on sight is available, with good beds and world class food. Coordination through Tad Anderson
Registration will open in early February
If you are interested in sponsoring the match send me and IM
More to follow any feedback is more than welcome hit me up on IM
Edit #1 COF description there are 20 stages. With 3-4 targets per stage either spread out laterally or in a troop line. Start position for every stage is prone bolt back and magazine in. The stages are 3 minutes so this is a single shot/top loading rifle type match. You will have about 30 minutes between stage depending on attendance. So this isn't a barrel burning type match. There will be only one stage that is timed in order to break any ties. If you shoot the match clean you will expend less than 80 rounds for the weekend. Thanks Highright
