Is it just me or does the Nightforce offering of the mildot reticle seem awfully busy. I recently got a good deal on a like new nightforce 3.5x15 50 mm with a NPR2 reticle. I considered having the reticle changed, but I'm not sure about the NF offering in this reticle. Any thoughts?

The NF Mildot is one of the best. The open center in the Mildots is very nice. You may like the MLR better. Look at it.

It is arguably one of the best mildots available but i seriously question whether a mildot is an appropriate reticle for recreational shooters these days. The NPR are good but note you might be swapping Mil for MOA between these two i believe so check. You want Mil/Mil turrets/reticle or MOA/MOA. Much more important in my view than the choice of reticle.

Not too busy.
But, take a look at the NPR1. I used to run mildot reticles, but since I do all my calculations in moa, its so much easier having an moa reticle and turret combo.

Sorry, I guess I did not read it right. You want to change your current reticle? I agree with the other posts. The one you have is much better, as it matches your adjustment knobs.

Thanks for the replies. It wouldn't make any sense changing from the npr-2 reticle to a mildot reticle and having .25 moa turrets on the scope. Also, the cost of having the turrets and reticle changed out isn't feasible (cheaper to sell the scope and order the right configuration).
I'm struggling a bit with the NPR-2 reticle as it seems to washout fairly easily against a brushy background at shorter ranges ( < 200 meters).

You're a good sport. I've never had a problem with the NF mil-dot reticle regardless of background, but as has been discussed might as well match the reticle to the turrets. I've been happier with mine since I sent it back for a mil turret conversion since it matches my reticle.

"busy" in context of reticles is all relative ...

I personally wish they had the mildot or MLR with one of those little grade scales at the bottom like a PSOP or something similar to their varmint reticle.
Would be nice for UKD Silhouettes etc to give you some confidence in your ranging via dots, or for quick solutions in timed situations.
Probably to much to ask for though.

Nope that was my honest answer nothing smatass about it.I mean if you think that a NF mil dot is busy a tasco air gun scope would be less correct?A reticle is a personal preference that you must figgure out on your own.I like my p4f and the only thing busy about a NF mil dot to me is shooting it WFO to mill correct.Look at all the the choices NF has to offer and just get the one you like.just don't get some bastard moa/mil set up .thats kinda like a fat chick with no tits or a chick with a great rack and no ass it just don't add up.

Mine, too. I used a Horus H25 for three years. <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">That's</span></span> a busy reticle - but after a while, you get used to what's in the reticle, and don't notice it, except when you need to.

I do appreciate the constructive feedback, this isn't about whether or not folks agree with me. I'm a bit frustrated because this NPR 2 reticle I purchased looked great <span style="font-weight: bold">on paper</span> for my intended purposes. After a bit of shooting/hunting, I find the reticle too thin for my tastes/needs. I <span style="font-weight: bold">really like</span>the NF scopes and see myself purchasing another here soon. What would be most helpful is to be able to physically look through these scopes and their different reticles to find exactly what I need. The more I look at the mildot, the more I"m liking it and the more I'm appreciating the open mildots. Thank you!!

I had a similar issue. I shot for many years with an NP1-RR and loved it. It was difficult to do RE with though. I then went to the NP-R1 and thought it was WAY too thin. So thin in fact, that I would call it gray rather than black.
Up close, it didn't work out so well but out long, the thinner reticle got appreciated a bit more.
I talked to NF about it, and they suggested the MLR. I traded off and bought one with the MLR/MRAD, and for me, it was perfect. It's all I use now.

Exactly like that. That's my ideal reticle. I'd maybe opt for the IOR dot replacement for the crosshair and I'd never buy anything else.
Beggars can't be choosers though I'd be incredibly pleased with that reticle in a Nightforce!

The Countersniper has two reticles, how could you go wrong with that?
If you use a reticle enough you get it imprinted in your mind's eye. When that happens you won't need the tree roots at the bottom.

I definitely have alot of familiarity to develope personally. I just really like the idea of some extra help here and there haha I know if I keep at it stuff will start to come more naturally, but I think I don't spend enough time shooting for that. I'd like to change this sad sad fact, but 12 credit hours along with a full time job seems to impede
