I’m looking to get a Nightforce NXS 1-4x24 Zero Stop FC-2 Reticle - .25 MOA Tactical Turrets for the SR15. The best deal I found was $1380 no tax and free shipping from this site. http://www.sportoptics.com/nightforce-nxs-1-4-24-scopes.aspx Anyone know of any better deals before I drop the cash? I have the exact 1-4x24 you described, except with milrad turrets. Just ordered a second one the same, except with the mildot reticle. The exposed turrets are the way to go, IMO. Even though it doesn't get a huge amount of use on the 1-4x24, personally I find the zero stop a very useful feature on any scope, regardless of the mag range. If you don't use it very often, it doesn't hurt anything. But if you want it and don't have it, well that's a little more difficult. You just have to decide whether it's worth the extra coin (~$178.00), knowing you may not use it very often.

I'd go for the covered turrets on the 1-4X. If it's going to be a target rig, go for a bigger scope.

Juuuuust in case you are not dead set on the Nightforce... I would strongly suggest taking a looksie at the 1-4x offerings from Vortex... I only say this because I was in that exact same position a few months back and had the rare chance to compare and shoot the Nightforce and the Vortex Viper PST 1-4's back to back. My LR rig wears a NF 5.5-22x so I am a huge Nightforce fan but I have to say, that 1-4x Viper PST is a dammed impressive scope for the money!

I only say this because I was in that exact same position a few months back and had the rare chance to compare and shoot the Nightforce and the Vortex Viper PST 1-4's back to back. This glass is going to be used on my personally owned SR15 patrol rifle for work. I have used eotect, aimpoint and such or the years. I wanted one with more magnification this time. I have seen where people use larger glass and run a second on the side. I have never used a setup like this. If you are running a setup like this let me know how you like it, that also is a option. So give me any input you have I’m open for suggestions. I will also take a look at the vortex. Thanks

I don't think you need zero stop on the 1-4X24 NXS either. I have the same scope with the FC2 reticle. Sport Optics is GTG.

I don't think you need zero stop on the 1-4X24 NXS either. I have the same scope with the FC2 reticle. Sport Optics is GTG.

I would definitely get a Zero stop. If you dial up, you want to be able to dial down and not get lost. A guy here was talking about shooting to 850 with a 1-4

For a patrol rifle, you are going to set and forget the knobs. Save yourself some money, get the covered caps and NO zero stop.
