Hi, Im new here at snipers hide and was looking for some opinions on the nightforce 3.5-15 nxs.
Im currently using 3x9 leupold vx2 on my rem 700 sendero 300wsm. My problem in that at 300 yards I cannot see my targets as good as I would like. My eyes are good, and my rifle is good. I use this rifle mostly for shooting deer and woodchucks, and preditors.
My issue is, I am looking to get more into some LR shooting but I dont need a s&b quality obviosly to start. I plan on purchasing a GAP M40a1 clone this fall and plan on swapping the nightforce off the 300wsm to the .308 m40a1..

I usually shoot deer on the farm from 300-500yards( grape vinyard nusance permits) from a 20' bird tower. Will this nightforce be a large improvement over the vx2 at 300-500? Is it worth my investment? In your opinion, is this scope going to be enough for starting LR shooting on gap m40a1.

Im a very consistant shot, and feel like I could do much more with better optics. Opinions would be great, not looking for sarcasm.

Thanks ok234. I have shot rifles in iraq with s&b, steiners, and once a Unertl 10x. All were amazing, all outa my price range. I thought the nightforce was middle of the road, good enought to dial in out to 700. Those deer look like a cat at 700 and the kentucky windage outa the vx2 is getting old. I want something more trackable.

Have you looked at a Vortex Razor HD 5-20x50? Close to same price as NXS but gives you more top end, FFP, standard zero stop and excellent reticles. Worth a look. Don't get scared by MSRP. Street price is under $2000. Call Scott at Liberty Optics and he might save you more. Worth a look and call.

Thx rob01. I have looked at the vortex, but made no $ inquiries. My close friend got his NF refurb for 1000. Had it for 4 years and has been rough as shit with it and the things been a tank.

I've had that scope for 5 years now and it's excellent. I just bought 5.5-22x56 for my second rifle. I've never seen one break and have seen many Premier and S&B's go tits up at exactly the wrong time.

I have run NXS and F1 on my duty rifles and personal weapons and now use the ATACR. My NXS has been bumped, banged, thrown, crashed, smashed, rained on, snowed on and been stuck in a case in the SWAT van side compartment on 110 degree days and never failed me once.

The Razor is also a great scope, as Rob pointed out, and my give you a few extra features the NXS does not and they are also sturdy with better glass then the NXS. The F1 glass matches the Razor and my ATACR is spectacular so with NF the glass quality improves as you go up in price but the rugged durability stays.

I have a NF NXS 3.5-15X50 on my LMT MWS as well. I also have 2 NF NXS 5.5-22X50's on other AR's. While the NXS 3.5-15X50 is a nice scope I find myself wishing I had gotten a NXS 5.5-22X50 on my LMT MWS just for the extra magnification when shooting at longer ranges.

Thanks samnev. Your the second person whos told me that same thing. So I think I will go with the 5.5-20×50 nxs f1. Its more money than I wanted to spend but from what im hearing it will be a better investment. Midway had the 3.5-15nxs for $1300, and Im glad I didnt impulse buy.

No such animal unfortunately. Nightforce only has 2 FFP scopes, the 3.5-15 F1 and the BEAST. Their 5.5-22 offerings are all SFP, as is the ATACR. With the unavailability of the BEAST, there's effectively only the one FFP option at the moment, and when it does finally release, the BEAST is firmly in the S&B price range.

ETA: If you're looking for the 5.5-22, then check out the optics for sale section. There's a ton of them listed at any given time, and since you can drag a NF behind your truck on the way to the range and still not damage it, there's really no down side to buying used.

The Nightforce F1 are very good scopes. We just got more in stock with the MD2.0 and the MLR2.0.

I've always loved NF. Years ago I couldn't imagine being able to afford one, now I'm looking at them as my "less expensive" option for my two DMRs. I love the F1, but in that price range, it's just not as competitive as it used to be. Several companies have great offerings for less $ these days.
Emotionally I really really want the NF, but I'm having to be realistic about the cost, or go with a SFP.

The BEAST money is already set aside and probably getting moldy by now.
