Rifle Scopes nikon m-223

Re: nikon m-223

I have one in my hands. It is going on a 24" Rem Model 7 in 223. The dial I have is calibrated for the 55gr BT bullet. It already has the distances marked, no MOA or IPHY marks. My only thought is what if I can't get the 55gr up to the speed they calibrated the dial for.

I haven't got to play with it but am looking forward to it.

Re: nikon m-223

Quite a few threads running right now about these scopes (ive got one now). Ive read all over the web and only found one bad comment. It was a guy with 5 posts who said his didnt work and wouldnt track well. Other than that the only issues ive read are that if its going on a hunting gun and you slide it in and out of a soft case the windage turret might get turned so you will need to check that.

I was thinking about getting one untill i read that for the scope to work out to 600 yards you need the M-223 20 MOA base or at least another 20 MOA base on your gun. If this is true or not I dont know, I'm still waiting for Nikon to email me back.

JCH, do you think the M223 is not quite up to the feel of Nikon scopes?
I was not overly impressed but will be very curious to see a review on how yours works out.</div></div>

The click actually feel similar to the new viper pst clicks. I like that. The glass is ok. It is a 1" tube and 42mm diameter objective. I'll need super low rings if I run a 20moa base. It won't be long until I can take it out and test it.

Re: nikon m-223

Noobie,
Can you send me a link to the post of the guy who said he is having problems with his M-223 scope? If it's the scope Nikon will stand behind it and I'll do my best to walk him through the return process to get him taken care of correctly. Last thing we want is a dissatisfied shooter!
Thanks Noobie.

even if it is true. I don't think unless the conditions are perfect that I am doing anything at 600 yards with the 55gr bullet. I'm okay with 450 if that is where I top out.

Re: nikon m-223

Sure thing barton it was on another forum but I will see if i can find it again.

JCH but since the turret is only marked 100 200 300 400 500 and 600 and doesnt have the smaller tick marks (sorry i dont know all of the technical terms for this stuff) wont the turret be thrown off without being on the MOA incline? or does all the 20 MOA incline do is elevate the scope enough to get those last clicks?

Nope, Not if you zero at 100.

think of it this way. From 100-300 it is 15 clicks (I checked). Now once you are zero'd, be it with a 20 moa or a flat base, it is still 15 clicks to get to 300. I might just run out of elevation past 450 if I'm not using a 20 moa base to "gain" those clicks.

And there are sub-hash marks for the 50 yard intervals between 100,200,300 etc...

Re: nikon m-223

the other nice features are:

The parallax adjustment knob has to be pulled out (like a NF illumination) to change the parallax.

Same thing with the elevation knob. There are no screws to loosen to reset the cap. Just pull up hard, and the knob makes a very audible click and you just spin the dial to set it.

the adjustment clicks are 1/4" (IPHY) at 100 yards. The turret is matched to a 55gr bullet at 3240fps.

Re: nikon m-223

Hmmm ok that makes sense. Now back to deciding..

Re: nikon m-223

i just got a 1-4 M223 for my home defense carbine and i like it. may not be as good as a viper or something but i think it will work well enough for what i got it for and it was the best i can afford

when i get more money i'll upgrade but for now i like this M223.

Re: nikon m-223

be careful with the turrets, they turn a little to easy for my liking... i got on for my buddy's AR, and just pulling it out of my ranger gun scabbard the windage would turn almost 1/2 a rev every time we took it out.

I don't like the sound of that.

I'll say this. For the price they are asking I would much rather step up to the 2.5-10 pst.
