New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie is well known for his extroverted personality and outspoken nature. But his often confrontational approach that kept his name in presidential primary talks for months ended in a shouting match today with a student who is a also a former Navy Seal.

Fox News reports that during Friday morning's town hall press conference, Christie called on 34-year-old law student William Brown. The two got into a debate over a plan to rename Rutgers University, Rutgers Camden-Rowan. Brown, who is active in Democratic Party politics, says the merger and name change would negatively affect the university's reputation.

After Christie says that Brown and his fellow classmates who are already enrolled at the university will still receive a Rutgers diploma, Brown interrupts him, shouting back, "What about my son? What about my neighbors? What about my friends?"

Christie then appears to lose his temper, saying, "If you decide what you want to do is put on a show today, let me tell you, I can go back and forth with you as much as you want. And let me tell you something; after you graduate from law school, you conduct yourself like that in a courtroom, your rear end's going to get thrown in jail, idiot."

Christie then tried to explain his behavior to the receptive audience, saying, "I tried to be patient with the guy. Every time I tried to answer, he's like, yelling over me again." And he received applause for what may turn out to be a regrettable follow-up quip, when he said, "I mean, damn man, I'm governor, could you shut up for a minute?"

Since I live in NJ, and not to get this thing all political, I"ll just say this. Christie can say whatever he wants in whatever tone of voice he wants to his cronies in govt, he is good at calling people rude and demeaning names and that is all great since they all act like chimps flinging their own poo at each other anyway. Buy if he can't keep things civil and constructive with the general populace and wants to silence a Navy Seals voice than he really didn't help himself or the state at all.

Seems to me neither the former Navy Seal or Governor where professional. I don't care that the guy is a Navy Seal, as all citizens deserve respect. Only reason it made the news is because this former Navy SEAL is acting as an activist.

Billy(William) is a good friend of mine and he is one of the most outspoken and motivated people I know. This isn't the first time he's got into it with the Governor and I know it won't be the last. His personality is pretty abrasive. He is a Democratic activist. He's not happy with the Rutgers Camden merger. He's a good guy, he just doesn't know when to let it go. Oh, and it's S-E-A-L, all caps.

Labels don't mean a lot...Governor, former Navy Seal...if you conduct yourself rudely, immaturely and unprofessionally does it really matter?

I've been finishing up the last season of Top Shot as it's entertaining on DVR while I'm on the treadmill. The former Navy Seal that was on there was a complete idiot. I'm sure that's not representative of that particular group as a whole...hopefully neither is a guy who gets in a shouting match with a governor over the name of a university.

    ^^^ +1

As for the former SEAL being impolite, Christi isn't exactly known for his courtesy or respect either and likes to be a bully arguer. I would bet money if the SEAL hadn't cut him off periodically he would've never gotten a word in edge wise. And there was still no reason to escort him off as the Governor himself was making comments he could go on all day and the SEAL made no inappropriate or threatening comments and it's a public forum.

This guy is/was a seal and a Democrat Activist? With out getting into politics or anything but aint that like being a member of PETA and working at a fur store? I have a hard time believing that. For the record I don't know alot of seals, maybe 3 or 4. But I do know alot of Rangers and SF guys and. Can never see any of them being " democrat activist".

Re: NJ Gov. Christi and Navy Seal

This guy's pretty extreme and has got a major hard-on for this re-nameing Rutgers issue. I saw the whole video last night (can't find it now) but he was being a dick to the Gov.

Check out his Youtube page for A LOT more but here's a few:

    <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EvAo8J-UGeg"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EvAo8J-UGeg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object>

    <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HnvidYmg-dw"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HnvidYmg-dw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object>

But if nothing else, you've got to admit that he stands up and fights for what he believes and I'll give him props for that.
