If you type in google for reviews on range finders "ALL" you will find is Copy and Paste word for word Text that these reviewer have stolen from the factory websites, There is no solid facts and figures of how these thing Range, Just a bunch of Girly Talk of what they like and what they don't like, Who gives a Crap about what they like, What we want is real world performance because that is where we want to spend our Money, What we want to know is will they work for us, It's a Yes or No Answer, It's not a Gucci purse or the latest thing in Heals, And I wish that those Hollywood Shooter would just shut the **** Up,
I guess by now you have worked out that they don't impress me and you would be Right.
Some of the Shooter Frat are to Blame, and some of the respected people are Gear Whore's, And I use that term in the fullest sense of the word, 3 or 4 years ago when the G7 everyone was out there testing and posting about it and Life was GooooD, But now things have changed where trusted people are posting reviews that have little reflection about getting out there doing the point and Squirt Two Step. Suddenly the G7 has become a Non event and the beloved 1600b is falling by the wayside, Certain sites are waxing lyrical about the Sig models even though they have been a huge disappointment to many Good and Honest People / Members here, I even tried to search about the Bushnell ConX and the only info I can find is by me and one or two others and all the rest are cut and paste Bilge,
Posting what the manufactures Quote is all well and good as a Guide but then we need to see real world facts and figures, And those sites that once told us about the G7 and the Terrapin etc have watered down the one thing that we as Buyers need to know, Whether it is kick backs or free products that are muddying the waters I do not know, But one thing for sure they have sold out and are responsible for the disappointment that many Sig Buyers/owners have fallen victim too.
What use is a rangefinder where you don't know if you are going to get a good one or not or if it is going to Crap out or not, And how many folks are going to have to delay their hunting trip while they wait for a replacement, Having the excitement build in the weeks prior just to hit the ground with a thump because of the reviewer has been less than Honest.
People complain about the Terrapin's long turn around, But ? How many Terrapin's do you know have gone down, And the same with the G7 and the 1600b, maybe a few of the latter LRF's and what about the Bushnell 1 mile ARC and the ConX Version, What use is a 3400 yd LRF if you have no confidence in it, The Sig models have proven TWO Important things to us, One they might range a heck of a long way and Two they have about a 60 to 70% Failure Rate. But because people want the bragging rights they throw money at their dealers to get their hands on a Sig, Some have been lucky and I am pleased for them and they deserve all the success in the world, but many others have not, There are review sites out there that only post the nice bits and they serve no purpose to us folks who are willing to hand over our hard earned Cash.
I urge you folks who do own any of the above Laser Rangefinders to post your facts and figures because "YOU" are our last line of Defence, like I said 3 or 4 years ago this was never an issue but now the Net is full of Blogging BS Artists who couldn't tell Sh1T from Clay, So please do your fellow Shooter a good service and tell em the facts, Good or Bad, If it is honest then it will be well received.
So far I have been using my new ConX for just about a month, testing it out when ever I get the chance. The facts and figure I got is only because I ran out of land with greater distances, But here goes.
I have Zapped domestic sheep at ranges of 877 yds, Tree's at 1371 yds and an old Grey Stone Church at an angle at 1485 yards and the corner of a large shed that was poking through the trees at 1677 yards, The conditions were Extremely Hazey almost like looking through Mist, I also Ranged Crows and pigeons out beyond 280 yards and small white marker stakes at around 389 yards, All these figures were Zapped using the ConX hand held, So In more favourable conditions I expect these distances to go a little further and even more so when Tripod mounted.
As of yet I have not managed to connect my ConX to my Android Phone because for some reason my phone wont let me update its software version so it means buying a new phone, and I have not bought a new Kestrel as of yet because I am still using my 4000NV.
The ConX Gives you a choice of 10 factory modes plus the Regular (LOS) mode and the Rifle HD mode that Gives you the LOS and the degree/Angle and the Corrected Distance, the you have the AB Mode to work with the Kestrel and then you have the 3 Gun Modes that work with the ConX App., So that gives you around 16 options from the limited pre sets to the Unlimited Custom AB and Gun Modes, Also I have seen it written where people quote that some of the modes only work out to 1000 yards, well that is not quite true either because the flatter shooting mode you use the further it will calculate and again The AB and Gun Modes are unlimited,
Hope this helps, and I hope we can get our Reviews back on track like they use to be,
Good Luck and thanks for your time.
John.
