A MASS shooting in New Orleans has left three people dead and at least seven injured.
City police spokesman Aaron Looney says the shooting happened on the 3400 block of Claiborne Avenue, about five kilometres from the French Quarter around 8.30pm local time (11.30am AEST).
Three victims died at the scene while the seven injured were taken to hospitals for treatment.

In front of a restaurant called "Chicken and Watermelon" according to news. Its a wings restaurant that sells watermelon punch.
Two guys used pistol and shotgun to fire randomly into crowd. Article says there was a personal dispute or grudge.

That corner is famous for shootings. They average 2-3 murders a year within a small radius of that spot. I typically won’t go to Claiborne at night anywhere downtown of Tulane University.
Jazz Daiquiris (next door to Chicken and Watermelon) is the best daiquiri in town, but it’s daytime only for the casual customer as its owned by some sort of organized crime.

Yeah, fairly typical Saturday night for us. Little bit of extra work for a few hours, but then back to business as usual. Three were 10-7 on scene, the others were minor. The ones I talked to were actually at the daiquiri shop coming out when the shots began. Around here, usually someone knows who the target was and why, but nobody talks. Time for a drink and sleep.

The party that purports to support the inner city inhabitants are the ones who work via gun control to ensure they can never oust the gangs themselves. Having worked some of the worst gang and terror controlled areas in the world (Afghanistan, Haiti, Liberia), the #1 cause the populace do nothing is they don't have the fortitude/attitude to do anything, most often because they do not have the means to do anything. The dems made sure they became institutionalized in their own neighborhoods via welfare, keep their compliant silence via being soft on crime, and keep them from rising up via gun control. They are cattle to the libs, producing votes for them ever two years like good little servants, and the left makes sure they stay down where they believe they belong.
It disgusts me to no end. We should be training and arming the neighborhood watches in these organized crime riddled neighborhoods, and prosecuting gang members under terrorism charges when they conduct these shootings.
Or they could actually enforce the laws on the books and stop putting hardcore scumbags back on the street .
Certain segments of society get the violence they allow and enable. They get the enforcement levels they vote in, and wallow in the shit.
Those on the fringes of those elements get splattered by the shit overflow.
Some live far enough away from it they arent touched by it and are indifferent to it.
Some live far enough away from it, and live differently, holding accountability and responsibility up.
Those who enable dont mix well with those who hold accountability. The indifferent dont mix with or like either of the other two.
Those who get splattered, get hurt by the violence, the indifference, and to a degree, the failure to mix with those who demand accountability.
Back then, when society as a greater whole demanded accountability and taught it in the education system....... Ahhh, those days are gone.....

In that section of Claiborne you'd need to hit the drive thru in one of your armored vehicles, and the belt-feds better have a full load out.
I grew up there, and there used to be clearly understood "areas". When I drive over there now I continue to be amazed at where I see the fucking tourists and yuppie gentrifiers.

What a tragedy. I can only offer a truly heartfelt, fuck New Orleans. And I mean fuck New Orleans in the most acidic way possible.
The tragedy is that the people of New Orleans have, for generations, nurtured a violent jungle and sought to extinguish anyone who fights it.
I watched a revolving door of police chiefs who were unable to address the disgusting violence. They were brought in from other violent cities (DC or some other Democratic Death Center - DDCs, I like to call them) to help save New Orleans from itself. Then one after another they were fired, or quit in frustration, or just wallowed in their own shit and gazed blankly as native sons slaughtered each other, the odd tourist or conventioneer, at will.
They have elected one piece of shit, corrupt, mayor after another.
In many ways New Orleans has represented the essence of America's left. Countless murderers are portrayed as the victim. There are endless examples of this but the one that sits at the front of my mind in solidifying the decision to never return was this:
- In the mid 80s a young piece of shit followed a Jewish woman's car into her garage after she returned from a shopping trip. He murdered her and took her purchases. The only newspaper in town, the Times-Picayune, offered a full length feature on how he was the victim. Her rabbi wrote a rebuttal and was immediately vilified for not being sensitive the plight of the animal who murdered this poor woman - after-all he had never been provided the Air Jordan's he so desperately wanted. You cannot make this shit up. The paper's offices should have been stormed. The fact that it wasn't, and that the sentiment offered up by the paper was shared widely is a testament to the strength of the culture embodied by the gunmen shooting into this chicken and watermelon eatery.
I have a gazillion personal anecdotes of how the city has torn apart everything good New Orleans has had to offer. Several people in my family and a few friends served in the NOPD. Except for my grandfather who spent his entire career with them, everyone else quit in disgust. That disgust was universally with the department, not the violence of the city, not the revolving door of the justice system, but with that relentlessly corrupt department that blurs the line between criminal and crime fighter so completely it comes as little surprise at the number of NOPD officers gunned down by other NOPD officers.
Until New Orleanians decide to do something about it themselves they are part of the problem and fuck them.
Three killed and 7 shot is just part of the normal operating tempo of this lovely city. Why is this even news?

It's a cultural problem. As others have suggested, prosecuting every one of them would be just a start. There are plenty of mechanisms covering organized crime and terrorism that would snag probably thousands. But then you'd be a racist. By going after politicians you would be denying the will of the people, which is not too far from plain truth.
I think it would be worth the investment to build a giant floating prison just inside international waters and have a regular ferry system running from the US District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. There are plenty of abandoned oil rigs and a variety of platforms that would be great locations for solitary confinement and thinking about things.

NOLA is an unfixable shitshow, and it kills me. Historically and culturally it is one of America's gems, but it can't get out of its own way.
Katrina "helped" and for a brief time there was a glimmer of progress, only to be met with the Mayor's "Chocolate City" plea.
Years ago I worked a Federal task force that was hugely effective at removing violent felons and scaring the shit out of countless others. We curbed gun violence by...............wait for it: going after the CRIMINALS instead of targeting the guns, and it damn well worked. The basis of our Fed cases were ridiculously simple:
Is the person prohibited from possessing a gun? Check
Did they possess a gun (almost entirely in the commission of another crime) ? Check

There were a few "administrative" things we had to establish such as us verifying through fingerprints that the bad guy we caught was the same bad guy who had previously spent "x" years in "y" prison for "z" felony. We also had to establish that the gun was in fact a "firearm" under the law, but essentially once we had a bad guy with a gun and could prove the possession we had our conviction.
I was talking to a prosecutor who had just come from a conference and she was telling me that attempts had been made to do what we were doing over in NOLA but that it was an epic failure. Even being a native New Orleanian I couldn't understand how such a simple process wouldn't work there until she explained that the court in NOLA couldn't seat a jury that would convict their violent felons. I did a mental face-palm and realized how so simple a process would come to a sceaching halt without a pool of law abiding jurors.
