I know everyone hates to see these type of questions so let me premise that I am sorry and couldn't find the answer by searching here, RFC, or google. Hopefully it'll be answered quick and then can just float to the bottom.

I know the formula and measurements to figure out proper mounting height, but I got new glass for both my rem 700 and mkii and now I want to get egw 20MOA 1-piece bases for them both, as well as new rings. How the heck do I know the base heights if they aren't listed on egw's site? I can't find the info anywhere. Maybe I'm just missing something? Or maybe the base is high enough that lows work even on a 50mm objective? Idk, help me out. Thanks in advance.

Re: Noob mounting question

I could be wrong, but I never really considered there to be a proper mounting height for any scope/rifle combo. I always figured that as long as the objective bell cleared the barrel and I still achieve proper cheek weld, then I was good, and I've bever had a problem thus far... Like someone here on the 'Hide said once, it's easy to over think things, K.I.S.S. but that't JMHO.

Taylor.

Re: Noob mounting question

Sorry, "proper" may have been the wrong word. I just want the objective bell to be close to the barrel without touching (Idk where I got it from but I've always shot for 0.125" when measuring). It's not so much an issue of getting it to be an exact fraction of an inch, I just want to make sure I'm not too low (need different rings) or too high (need to buy a cheek rest or new rings). Perhaps it is sufficient for someone to guess based on experience... I just don't trust myself guessing because of a lack of experience.

Re: Noob mounting question

K, well my solution would be to order the base and go for a "medium" height ring setup if you have a 40 mm Obj, and "high" rings if you have a 50 mm Obj. Top Pred just did a MKII build and the 'highs' worked well with a similar base and cleared what equated to a 50 mm obj.

Good Luck,

Taylor

Re: Noob mounting question

I got a lot of help in this thread. Also, just figure your ring height without the base, and go with those rings. The 20moa base for the MKII will not make enough difference to let you go with the next size down in rings, but I can't speak for the 700.

Also, a bit of advice: If you have a heavy barrel MKII, you may need the Savage 93 base instead of the MKII. I have a MKII BV (laminated stock heavy barrel) and because Savage tend to use the longer actions on their heavy barrels, I had to get the 93.

Re: Noob mounting question

I like my scope low as well.

My 700 .308 has NF 1" high rings and a NF 20 MOA base and clears a 56mm OL

My 40XB .22 has TPS 1.075" Rings with a 20 MOA base and clears a 42mm objective with a bunch of room to spare.

Re: Noob mounting question

Yes, it's pretty easy. I did order mine and have to return it because I was piecing my build together before I had the gun in my hands. If your ejection port measures 1 3/8" inches, you need the MKII base. If your ejection port is 1 5/8" inches, get the 93. Also, you may want to either call or email them if you just have to know the height of their bases. I had excellent customer service when I was having to exchange my MKII base for a 93.

Re: Noob mounting question

Measured it this morning. Measures a little over 1 and 5/8," so I guess I need the 93. Thanks a ton, just saved me some time and hassle. I guess I'll just call them up... they should be able to answer all my questions. Thanks again guys.
