I need a base for my sps tactical But, I have noticed that the bases I have been looking at (TPS) have one that says with 8x32 screws. I assume the 8x32 is for a barrel that has been tapped due to stripping? Can anyone clarify for me? Thanks.

Re: noob needs some help

'Smiths upgrade to 8 x 40. Remove the screws that are in there already and go with those. They are a 6 x ?? if memory serves. A thread guage tool is dirt cheap at Sears or any hardware shop. If you bed your base(green pad, clean with alcohol, put a little compound/jb weld on) and tighten it down right you won't have any problems. Just remember to grease your screws and screw holes before you start. A very thin layer will set your base down and help in the absorption of recoil transfer so the smaller screws can do what they do

Re: noob needs some help

PS...you're correct on the 8x40 being what smiths sometime use. Some upgrade for the strength but just as often they do it because the factory wholes aren't 100% perfect inline with the bore so they redrill and retap the factory holes to get everything just right.
