We're about 65 miles away. Had guys up in the bucket doing hot work.....it got our attention!! The alert system works pretty good.

I didn’t hear or feel anything, but both the work and personal phone screamed out along with every other cell phone at the Dr’s office.

My folks saw some evidence at their place and the smith at my LGS said a bunch of hanging stocks swayed a lot.

It's weird how it radiated.....people barely felt it 15 mile north of us.

Does being under the ocean literally “put a damper on it?”

When I heard 7.0 I was hoping LA or SF was turned into a LEGO pile.

But the land barely got a Tremor. Does the water absorb the energy so its affect on land is mitigated?

Inquiring minds want to know!

@earthquake?

heard some houses on eel river were shifted off their foundation (a different gun forum).
i think that could be ~25 miles from where the 7.0 happened.

That's what "they" say. Off shore and 10km deep. Earthquakes must be like swimming....measured in foreign shite

Lol.....I got the exact same report.....maybe we both know the same old ginger mofo....lol
It wasn’t the same person, my coworker is younger Than me. But we might know the same person. It’s amazing how the circles of interaction overlap up here, especially in the shooting sports and hunting circles. Also they could be neighbors.

Gonna nerd out here for a bit, so bear with me. The fault is oriented E-W and all the movement was along strike (orientation) and horizontally. If you live along strike of the fault, east or west of the epicenter, you’ll feel the full force of it. Those north and south will not feel it nearly as much.

This is also why there was no tsunami. Strike slip faults (faults that slip/slide along their strike (orientation)) have little to no vertical movement which is necessary to heave sea water and cause a tsunami.

We live about 170 miles to the north. My phone went crazy with alerts to take cover. Never felt a thing but seems if stuff was shaking we would be doing that, not waiting for some kind of emergency notice telling us what to do.

Shortly after, we were getting tsunami warnings. We are far enough inland this would not be an issue for us. Watched some web cams of fishing boats making a run to the ocean. Safer there for them than tied up to a dock in a harbor.

Reading postings on social media for the local area. Sure some stupid people out there, and even more 'chicken little's' of the end of the world is here we are going to die in a tsunami. No tsunami so we will have to wait for the 'big one' now.

You probably know where Fortuna Iron is in Alton, I was inside the shop when it hit and I can tell you that the steel in that place makes a LOT of noise ! we all hauled ass outside and I could see the ground moving in a rolling wave.
Not exactly but I know where the airport is.
I can imagine the racks of steel making one hell of a racket. We were along side the road in Hayfork replacing a pole. My crew was up in the hot primary when it hit. Pretty good ride.
