Here’s my train of thought and could use some feedback to see which track I’m on.

I have my hunting rifle (308) and a trainer for it (17hm2).
I would like to add a semi-auto to the mix in either 22lr or 17hm2.
I like the 17hm2 because there’s not a million choices, I find it shoots accurately, price-wise it’s about the same as quality-to-match 22LR ammo, plus I can use it for target OR bunnies so I side in 17hm2 direction.

I've read over the years the semi-auto 17m2 safety concerns due to early ammo issues so there’s no production guns generally available.

I considered a dedicated upper but 17hm2 isn’t generally an option so that pushes towards a build.

Option 1. At it’s basic level the Ruger SR-22 appeals to me. I could start there, with 22LR, and knowing all the 10/22 aftermarket ‘support’ for it, down the road if need be I could work my way through the upgrade process everyone seems to go through.

Option 2. But I’ve done a few things in the past that if I had realized how much I would eventually spend, then I would have leapt the learning curve and spent the sum up front on the higher goal. Reading about all the upgrade paths people take and knowing that I’ll eventually be (personally) happier with the 17hm2 I’m considering marrying a Nordics components with Volquartsen Hm2 functions.

Am I right in thinking I can get a Volquartsen receiver, trigger, barrel & work them into a Nordic component carriage?

Thanks

Re: Nordic + Volquartsen + 17hm2 ?

Any 17hm2 build will cause you problems. I dumped 1500 into a volquarten build and was never happy with the cycling issues.(poor ammo quality) Awesome gun when it didn't spit fire out the wrong end
