I was born on the navy base down there in 69’ left when j was a year old cause they didnt have pediatric surgery there at the time. Only been back once, even found the house we lived in with moms memory and a pic of it. I was gonna knock on the door but noone was home. Wife and i are planning on going back down this summer. Probably go middle keys to stay. Would probably retire down there if it wasnt so damn expensive to live there

Took a boat trip to Looe Key Reef ( https://www.tropicalsnorkeling.com/snorkeling-looe-key.html ) for some snorkeling. The camera doesn't come close doing the water colors justice - unbelievable blue. It changes form dark navy blue to at times glacier melt pale blue, to green, to blue green. - unbelieveable.

We got to swim with the sharks - Nurse and Reefs - much more non-chalant than the guys I will worry about on cape Cod this August. Goliath Grouper had to go over 500-600 pounds, 4 of them swam over and just sat under the shade of the dive boat. Sadly no underwater cams. Jealous of @Mike Casselton if this is his frequent routine.

So you go to Miami for a night and the hotel fucks up.

They tuck you into the 27th floor tower suite instead of the $600 a night "affordable" room we were supposed to be in........we got the $1000 plus a night "suite". Thankfully they bought the upcharge. Kids still complained because they had to sleep on a fold out - fuckem.

There is a big NAS as you arrive on Key West. We watched couple of Hornets circling for landing.

we headed down for the souvenir picture at "The Southernmost Point" point. There is a substation there....looks like it has all sorts of listening gear aimed south 90 miles.

Beautiful area with its old Spanish colonial architecture.

Making it down to Key West was a last minute thing.

We mentioned to our hostess at dinner in our hotel that we had planned on going to Key West to check it out and she vectored us over to the Looe Key snorkeling trip.

Very glad we did the snorkeling trip as it was well worth it. I did start to get seasick though - I am such a boat pussy.

That Mel Fisher museum would have been a great trip.

That hostess also directed us to the Square Grouper for dinner.

Just so happened we got off the dive boat about 1630 and Square Grouper opens at 1700. Doors opened about 2 minutes after we got to the restaurant and we walked right in. 15 minutes later there was already a wait starting and at 2100 or so when we drove by there were still 10-15 people outside.

    Great eats...

I will have to check it out when we go down this summer. Sorry about you getting sea sick. I have never been there but have been offshore fishing with quite a few that have. Wife and i went on a cruise the end of January on the way back the “fun day at sea” winds were blowing 50mph and probably 13-15’seas. Lots of sick folks. Good thing was only about 30 of us had run of the whole boat all day. Casino not crowded, breakfast and dinner not crowded. It was great

Since getting seasick once in the Atlantic, October time frame, out fishing with high school classmates, the whole boat but three puking....Ive never gone on a boat again without first taking dramamine.

If you hand someone that is seasick a revolver with one bullet they will happily use it - worst thing.

I just got a little queasy they other day, not full blown barfing sick. Took some of the enjoyment out of the snorkeling but didn't ruin it.

Strong wind that day. I took the placid waters near shore for granted.

Bought some more dramamine as soon as we hit shore.

We go on a fan boat tomorrow through the Everglades my rule now is if its on water Im taking pills.

Take one the night before and the morning of the trip. Old captain told me that for an ex gfriend before we went offshore. She didnt listen so no fucky fucky for me that night

Choppy and dirty. That water down that way is normally pretty clean. Howd you like the airboat ride??

    Airboat is tomorrow.

Spent the day at the beach today.

Kids are enjoying the surf. Its cloudy but still "clean".....would like to see it clear before we leave though. I spend my time with binos glassing the water. Not much boat traffic out there.

Went to eat in Naples tonight (https://campiellonaples.com/ ). Good food.

Wife did a lot of shopping, me bored to death with lame clothes shopping stores. I can deal with the shopping if at least one store in four has something to interest me - not finding that in these places.

I will force them into a gun store while Im down here at some point.

Walked out on the pier. That was cool. Moon greater than half gave plenty of light. Fisherman were getting Maintopsail catfish. Was wishing they would pull a shark for the kids to see but no luck.

Women sometimes forget about paying us back for being good natured during shopping.
    Remind her ?

I like shopping with momma if the kids arent with us. We tend to have a good time.

Good looking trip sir. Looking at something similar next year. Not 100% sure of all the details......

Sickest I been on the water was when I put on a patch my wife gave that she was using to get by.

Was supposed to be rough seas.
Same boat was on day before.

Got crappy feeling before we got far.
Deck hand saw me and asked and told him about the patch.
He said didn't you drink all day before?
Yes, he told me to strip that thing off go wash with soap and water and get a beer quickly.

If you drink drink do not use anything and don't mix the two.
Booze will numb your inner ear enough just don't overdo it especially if hot.

It got rough and trip cut short pats on boat coming loose.

3 people did not get sick captain, deck hand and me. I would go inside to wipe my wife's face with a wet towel and go back outside. Waves running down the gunnels? 2-3 ft deep.
I just hung on the top of the deck with a beer in the other hand.

Went up to the wheelhouse to check if captian needed anything. He was glad to see me. He had dropped his lighter and could not let go of the wheel.
Ran down a damage report for him.
Broke antenna busted fire extinguisher mount a big one that nearly hit the deck hand some coolers overboard and a cabin full of sick people.
Got to love a steel hull and massive bilge pumps.
Went back down and emptied buckets over the side for the deck hand.
Trick was timing the waves running down the deck and opening cabin door.

    What a honeymoon. Lol
