Not so funny safe story

So I've needed a safe for a while now and was determined to get one without an electronic lock because I think it's silly to trust gaining entry to your firearms to an electronic part that can fail easily. I ended up with one because the price, size and availability was right at the time.

This is not a company bashing thread so I have left the brand out on purpose but my reservations about owning a safe with electronic could not have been confirmed any better. It is one of the better known manufacturers and I will leave it that.

Safe was delivered Saturday night and after spending an hour bringing it in the house and positioning it we attempted to open it without any success. $1400 on a safe and it's nothing more than a decorative piece in my house at this point. The company is sending a new key pad and stated that if the new pad does not work a locksmith will have to come and drill the lock. I will be changing this to a mechanical lock as soon as it's resolved.

Ive had 3 S&G's for the past 10 yrs, they've only needed batteries. hate fucking with spinnin a dial when I gotta get in

Re: Not so funny safe story

New S&G locks are CHEAP!!! They have a plastic drive spindle which eventually cross threads itself, and the lock must be forced. As with anything, buy quality. Look at LA GARD Basic for a good electronic lock.

ETA: The factory code for the S&G electronic locks is "123456#" You must press the # key, for it acts as an Enter key.
