Ok, I have an Ar-10 build question for those who have experience with a 16” Noveske barrel in 7.62.

I am in the process of starting a build with the Armalite AR-10 upper and lower, Magpul PRS, DD 12 rail and all of the other bells and such.

This gun is going to be for work to compliment my bolt gun. A fellow officer, who has some experience, is going with a 16” POF upper. It will be used, kind of, as a getting in and coming out of position gun but I want sub moa at 100y.

What I am looking for is anyone that may have experience with the Noveske 16” barrel and what type of performance you had with it.

Thanks for the help

Re: Noveske 16" 7.62

Dunno about the 16", but I will be able to tell you about the 21" in a couple weeks.

I mulled it over for quite some time between the 16" and the 21". I mainly went with the 21" because of the rifle length gas system. It may eventually get cut back to 18" and have a switchblock installed to run a suppressor.

I am hoping to get the AR10 up and running and also use it as an option to my bolt gun on callouts. The reasoning is that if I run into a target en-route to the FFP I would rather address it with a 20 round magazine in a autoloader than a five round bolt gun.

Re: Noveske 16" 7.62

Every one we have seen has had great performance and honestly I think the 16" shines in an AR10 in 7.62.

I started off with my POF and sold it for the 16" and that is an absolute hammer. As well I had GAP build me an 16" Upper for my Eagle Lower and it is my most accurate AR10 to date.

This past month I shot it too 1000 yards and with factory ammo, (Actually M118LR) I only needed 39MOA to reach 1000 yards at sea level and hit pretty well. You're results may very but the shorter the better in an AR 10 in my opinion.

As long as people understand it's an 800m gun, they will be much better off.

Re: Noveske 16" 7.62

39 MOA up from a 100 yard zero with M118 LR sounds really impressive.
My 18.5" AR-10 needs 6 MOA more elev. with that ammunition,at that range.
Lowlight, you must be in the 2600 ft/sec range unless your at a high density altitude, and that is hard to achieve with a 16" barrel.
You must have got a fast barrel.
What barrel did you go with?

Why do my numbers always look so bad on the interweb?
Oh well, my bullet still gets there, just later than everyone else's I suppose.

Re: Noveske 16" 7.62

My 16" AR10 is actually faster than my Gladius at the same range.

The density altitude was not very high, even so the most we ever see it at RO is around 2500, in summer. Here it was winter and closer to 1000 ft, I think it might have been 700 but I forget.

Most of my short barreled stuff needs about 12 MIls to 1000 yards with factory, the GAP AR10 is just fast.

It's a tight bore Bartlein, but what the spec's are I don't know, Flounder did it and he must have added a little extra pixy dust to it near as I can figure.

it's an absolute hammer of a rifle though

Re: Noveske 16" 7.62

I like hearing that the 16 is a good length. I think I will go that way. Although I almost went with the 18" as it was in stock for about 5 seconds. I went to get my money, the wife does not know about, on a card and got a call out. When I got back they were all gone!!!

Oh well.

Re: Noveske 16" 7.62

I know what you are talking about.

I have been waiting on them to get the barrels back in stock (calling every week). When I saw that they were in stock the offices were closed, so I almost waited to order one (to make sure I got the LE price). I decided to take a chance and just ordered it online hoping they could adjust the price later. Glad I did, because when I checked again later they were all sold out.

Hopefully come Monday I will have the confirmation the 21" is on the way. I am used to the 26" tube on my 700, so I don't think I am going to have any problems with swinging the 21" on the AR10. When I get around to getting a can for it I will probably cut it back.

Besides, I really did want to give the AR10 a try as a 1000 yard gun. I knew the 16" COULD get there, but I also knew the 21" would do it better. I am stuck in the rut of trying to make all my stuff "dual purpose" for LE and long range. Eventually I will be able to break out of that...just not yet. Maybe when I get the .300WM done.

LOL
Well the LE use is an excellent excuse to justify gun purchases, especially to the wife.
It's a matter of safety and that's that.

I'm currently making up new excuses though, some of them are pretty good.
Like:
I need a rifle that can shoot bowling pins well at 1050 yards in case there is a long range bowling pin shoot that I attend.
I also need another Glock 19, one with that "new" texture, in case my other is at the bottom of the gun pile. (I really like that gun)
I spend a lot of free time shooting my service rifle so I'm sure I have plenty of time to devote towards a match rifle too.

I love it!
There should be a credit card company solely for this purpose.

Ham,

There is, kind of. I go to the mall and get it put on a gift card then zero it out when I purchase what I "need". It also adds a bit of security to your bank account by removing it.

I was also thinking that if I waited I would get the LE discount but decided to order it anyway then BAM call out and sold out!!!

Re: Noveske 16" 7.62

Well, with out stepping on anyones toes about there semi .308
I can tell you this much about Mr Noveske, over the past 12yrs of shooting semi .308 I have owned 6 Armalites, 5 Stoners, 2 GAP built AR10's(which are very accurate) and 1 Noveske.

As of right now I only own a Noveske. The rest Live at somebody elses house.
My Larue OBR will be here next week >> so we will see
