"Now, understand, Commander, that torpedo did not self-destruct. You heard it hit the hull. And I was never here?"

That quote is from The Hunt for Red October, where James Earl Jones / Admiral Greer comes in and tells the commander on the Ruben James to lie about what happened.
Curious what you're supposed to do / if anyone has actually been is such a situation where a superior officer came in and told you to lie if asked about an incident, versus not answering the question.

Used to have cover stories. Once went home to pack my bags and told my wife this tale about flying to McDill for an exercise. Picked up the local newspaper the next morning and the front page story is about where our unit is deploying (they were right).

For my unit it generally went like this: "Yes, sir. Now does that statement cover the TDY when you needed to get recovered from the 3 strippers and a knife? You know the "Arkansas Incident"??

You've worked a lot on your own, haven't you, Captain?

    Yes, sir, I have.

Your report specifies intelligence, counter-intelligence with Com-Sec, I Corps.

I'm not presently disposed to discuss those operations, sir.

Did you not work for the CIA in I Corps?

    No, sir.

Did you not assassinate a government tax collector...Quang Tri province June 18, 1968?

    Captain?

Sir, I am unaware of any such activity or operation, nor would I be disposed to discuss an operation, if it did in fact exist, sir.

Does being a superior who guided subordinates to change their recollection of an event count?

Gundecking is a sin. Yes, it happens. If you do it, you better be damn sure you know what the fuck you are doing and be damned sure it's worth it. Like going to jail worth it.

Watched a documentary on CIA torture and their use of APA board certified psychiatrists on their BSCT teams last night...

    Multiple claims of exactly this.

The bitch that actually ran Abu Grahib, captain cunt something or other, she "had no clue what was going on" despite being in command... Was brought back to "teach what she'd learned" to be used in US prisons. Great.

The 06 apparently didn't know what was going on either so I guess the army is ran by E4's...

It seemed like if you unit wouldnt tell you where you were deploying to, either the local paper or the officer's wives club would know.
    So much for OPSEC...

I guess one has to be relatively old to know where this came from. I’m old and he still can’t fly an airplane properly.......

I've been "asked" by a superior officer to have a memory problem once when there was an investigation. Fortunately, the investigation didn't make it as far as me.

We knew. McDill was the cover story. Most likey some pissed off two-striper told his squeeze.

    Or a Congressman.
Never forget the treason of Congressman Andrew J. May.

"I hear Congressman May said the Jap depth charges are not set deep enough. He would be pleased to know that the Japs set them deeper now."

    -Vice Admiral Charles A. Lockwood

Should've shot the son of a bitch..... or at least made him ride on a sub into the warzone.

Did you go fishing with a Superior Officer and before you left did he ask......

"If you went fishing, and oddly fell asleep, than woke up feeling like you had a glazed crueller wiped on your face, would you tell anybody?"

    Than after you replied "No."

He said "Don't tell anybody, we are going fishing, let's go!"

Ah. Well that explains it. That sir is a starship! 😁

I did find the airplane in question after I searched for it.
Didn't know he was a bad pilot in the real world.

That's the least of his aircraft issues.....he landed a plane on a taxi way over the head of a jetliner on takeoff.

I think he is the Biden of aviation right now.

If by bad you mean fly over the taxi line and aircraft thinking it’s the runway, then yes.
