The reason is, I hunt from a barn loft that over looks the field we hunt.
Were elevated about 30' up in the air and shots are possable out to 1000yds.
We also do most of our hunting during the late fall and winter so alot of the time their is a good ammount of ambient light.
Moon light reflecting off all the snow can make it fairly bright at night, with the naked eye it's possable to see several hundred yards if their is no cloud cover and a fullish moon.
I know I need atleast a Gen2+ or 3 but I don't want to spend a huge ammount money either.
Biggest thing I think I need is a good ammount of magnification, I'm thinking 4x minimum and 6x would probably be better.
I haven't really found any Gen2+ that are high enough magnification for me to consider them, anyone know of any?
I plan on eventually getting a lazer IR illuminator if I need it but thoes arn't cheap either so that is a ways down the road.
Any advice would be appreciated & helpful.

Unfortunately for the ranges you want to engage at, it will take more than your budget is allowing it appears.

I almost did not post on this topic, but this: "Unfortunately for the ranges you want to engage at, it will take more than your budget is allowing it appears." is probably the most accurate post here.
Personal experience.
PVS-14 (head or weapon mount), Aimpoint, and DBAL-A2 with 223. 200 yards at absolute best because of dot size, caliber ability, and trajectory with a working caliber allowed zero.
PVS-14 (head mounted) with 308 or larger with laser, problem you have is the specific distance you have the laser zeroed and the trajectory of the round. This is very difficult.
D740 or D760, known zero is fine 300 and under with most calibers. In the dark, changing the zero settings on the scope is a most difficult thing when you also have to range the target which is not staying in one place long.
No laser/illuminator 50% or better lighting with a rifle and day scope that you know extremely well: Tans 300 yards. PVS-22 500 yards. PVS-27 (Muns) 700 yards. And this on hogs that appear black as smut in the unit. Deer and coyotes in any kind of grassy cover or with a tree line back-ground dissapear because their fur absorbs and hides them well at distances over 100 yards.
In really good lighting when they will cast a shadow, the deer will show up further away and this is dependent on both the quality of NVD and illuminator.
Tans, 22, and 27, with a high dollar illuminator or laser adds some distance to the above on both hogs and deer.
Best distance shot I have made at night, 800-810 yards on a known distance rifle range with stationary targets to know where the critter was, was done with a 300WM, a Schmidt and Bender 3-12 and a PVS-27 (Muns). Rifle, $3,500.00, S&B $2,500.00, and PVS-27 $12,000.00. Thats 18K for an 800 yard shot. And that is my best one. Daylight is another story. Rifle was a work rifle and the PVS-27 was a loaner-test unit. No, I can't afford that.
And none of the other NV gear I have used is up to that kind of shot. jmhe
