Which would you pick and why?
For context this will primarily live on a 14.5 build. Occasionally could move over to a bolt gun hunting rig.

I get a mil discount on both making them close in price (for non illuminated mk5 at least).

I like how compact they both are but not opposed to the 4-32 nx8 or 5-25 mk5.

Both are lighter options than taking the thicccc razor out for a hunt

I’ve owned a 7-35 and a 5-25 Leup
Love their turrets. Hate, hate, hate the parallax. So finicky it took away from the shoot. Glass was so so.

NX8 is’t my favorite either. Tight eyebox

Of those 2 choices only, I’d take the nx8

I’ll say this, for a hunt scope, that’s a lot of magnification you won’t be using. You’d be happier with a 3-15

I have NX8s on many platforms. Size, weight, quality, resale value. May not have illum on the MK5 depending on model. Bonus of MK5 is center dot in some of the reticles for a little more focused shooting and may weigh less (oz are lbs) if backcountry hunting. If you're back east and everything is going to be inside 300m you could definitely come down in magnification. Here in the west, many hunting with 5-25s or better. Longer shots happen.

I tried both and ended up with the 4-16 ATACR. For me, 16 ATACR > MK5 > NX8.

For what it is worth, I think all of them are too much scope for a 14.5" rifle. I would look at something like the 10 Trijicon or MK5 probably.

2.5 is easy with illum and the field of view it provides is what I was after for hunting scenarios. 3-4x is great until a target pops up at closer ranges and you need to follow. The 20x on top let's us reach out here in the west. 700+ meter shots in the Frank Church are not uncommon.
