great barrels--enjoy the wait!!

I am a HUGE Rock barrel fan. You owe it to yourself to check them out.

Re: Obermeyer barrels? Anyone used one

Im building a 338 edge. going with a 30" barrel. What would be your choice. newer to long range shooting, wanting to go with a higher quality barrel. Most of the gunsmithing i hav done, i have put douglas barrels on, mostly because they are closest to home and ecnomicly priced for most people who need barrel changes. i have a shilin on my 308 lr rifle, and it shoots well, but i want somthing that when i get out to 1000+ there are no doubts that it is only human error when i miss? !!
How about schnider, i cant find a site for them either.

Obermeyers are fantastic, but can be hard to get as he does a ton of work with the defense dept. I understand that Mike Rock trained with Obermeyer which could be why his are so good as well. Really though IMHO, any of the top tier manufactures will produce a product that will do it's part when a good smith does theirs.

As was said above and would be revealed if you undertook the most cursory search of the posts on this site, any of the high-end manufacturers (Rock, Bartlein, Broughton, Border, Obermeyer, Schneider, Hart, Kreiger, Brux, Pac Nor, Benchmark, Shilen, Lilja, etc etc etc) should be able to cut you a tube that when chambered properly should suit you needs.

As the prices are rather competitive, the only issue you will face is availability.

Personally, I have owned Border, Bartlein, Rock and Broughton and all performed equally. caveat--none of mine were .338, but I doubt that will make a significant if any difference.

Re: Obermeyer barrels? Anyone used one

I don't own one but have shot a AR-10 chambered in 260 with an Ober barrel. Its a sweet rifle for sure. He spent about 14 months building it waiting on his "special" order items. I don't know how much he has into the rifle total ... but he put an Osprey Scope on it ... I was so confused ...

Re: Obermeyer barrels? Anyone used one

Everyone that knows me knows I spend way to much time researching everything I do. So I understand these things need to "run their course" if you will...I've learned that some barrel's are easier to clean...some are not. If you use wipeout it doesn't really matter anyway. However when it comes to accuracy, all of my research, and listening/learning has pointed out the fact that it doesn't matter if you're dealing with the best makers as listed above.

Pick a gunsmith that you trust and want to do your build, and let their expertise make the selection for you. Your smif' is going to want to pick the best for you and your rifle so they can deliver a winner that your happy with...so anyway put away your worry beads and just go shoot it and

I have owned Lilja, Hart, PacNor, Rock, and Broughton - all performed great. Many will do canted style rifling, just use different names. I have no experience with this style rifling but have 2 at a smith right now for installation (Rock and Broughton).
A fair barrel properly installed will probably shoot well, a good barrel improperly installed is trash.
PacNor seems to have decent wait times, but they all vary. Look to find something in stock.
Pick a great smith and you will be ready- note: the good smiths commonly have waiting lists also.

Re: Obermeyer barrels? Anyone used one

I have a couple of Obermeyer barrels. As well as Rock, Broughton, Hart, Shilen and others. I have yet to get one that isn't good from anyone mentioned above.
