Sorry about taking so long to get the Match results out but been super busy. Everyone trying to get things done before Winter along with all my projects I just was whipped when I finally got in and didn't get it done.
This was something different but I think everyone had a good time and enjoyed it although most felt a bit out of their comfort zone which is what I kinda intended. Might do another one next year and I'm sure everyone will be prepared.
The shooters had 25 minutes (1500 seconds) to shoot 100 targets, it don't sound like like it'd be tough but I had a few mixed in that made it challenging and slowed the faster shooters down a bit to get a hit. Ugly Beddy showed it's not just a longrange precision stock but is also a tactical design as well. Chris ran it incredibly quick with few misses, he really likes that old Win 52-C action and cycles it with his thumb. I can fit it to about any gun, waiting list is really long now so get your order in early. I can use Lowes Top Choice twisted pine or cut up old pallets which have a weathered look.
I shot my Rem 40-X single shot and having to raise my cheek off the stock to stretch forward to get each shell in cost quite a bit of time. Other single shot shooters had the same problem. Think a bolt gun with a 10 round mag is the best combo to use. All those few seconds for reloading a magazine or leaning forward to get the next shell in add up over 100 shots.
OK, the results. I'm going to try and include all the info so everyone can see how many targets the shooter shot, how many rounds he had left over and the time he used hitting them. Chris came up with the calculation to figure out everything. We took targets hit + rounds left - targets left which gave us a reference number. Then we divided that by time they used shooting the match X 1000 to get rid of the decimal point. Sounds confusing but it works with every combination we tried and gave us a final score number.
Chris and I don't include our scores for winning the match. Dave Moore is this Months match winner and Dave Calipare and Bill Nesbett won the $25.00 drawings. Get with me to get it before I spend it on something. Black Friday is coming up soon and I want another SWFA 20 Moa-Quad.
Accuracy still is number one in importance with few misses but you need to do it quickly. Some shooters shot slower and had fewer misses. The principles are still the same, just at a faster pace. Comfortable positioning behind the gun to be on target quickly and have it stay on target during the recoil. Learning to position the gun quickly at different stages with no wasted time manipulating the bags and getting a good release but just quicker and as smoothly as when you take your time.
I was impressed with Lil Bixler, new shooter with her new gun and this was probably the hardest match every to jump in and get her feet wet but she kept her cool and worked her way out thru the targets very well. Look our next year when I go back to my regular format. She's gonna be a good shooter.
Thanks eveyone who came, hope you enjoyed it. I really enjoyed having you all this Summer and saw a lot of improvements in the competitors. Who would have thought you would be hitting such small targets at these distances a couple years ago? I learned a lot just spotting and watching every shooter, it's gonna be even tougher next year but I'm looking forward to it. Probably gonna be the second weekend of each Month next year. I'm not sure when I'll start but maybe around April.
