Well, I am back from RO, had a day to decompress from both the match and the air travel, so here it goes.
The 2009 Fall Shooter's Bash at held at RIfles Only was outstanding, from the first day of the train up to the last day of the match everyone exhibited some great weapons handling skills, which we all appreciate it. We take the safety of the competitors and the safety of the staff very serious at these matches, as this is our first and last concern. We ask the competitors to do some things they don't always get to do at their local ranges, and everyone's professionalism is what allows us to continue down these roads less traveled. A competition is nothing more than a sum of its competitors and I'm lucky to say we have some of the best at our matches.
A lot of things go into putting on a match, it is more than just the course of fire, it's about bringing together 60 people, making sure the stages are challenging, but also it about making the weekend as complete as possible. Part of that experience is the food and I want to thank James and Lisa for doing another outstanding job on the food. I think this year was some of the best pork & brisket we have had since we started.
To Lisa Sisk, who keeps the scores on track. The is not an easy task to have up to date scores as the match is going on because we use a variety of targets, from steel to paper. The paper is actually harder to score than it appears because you want to be fair to the competitor and give them benefit of the doubt when the shot is on the edge of the line. So again, thank you Lisa Sisk for doing another outstanding job.
To Wynn, Miles, Adam, and John Lemm, again, thank you all for the hustle and keeping the match safe. It's not easy moving 60 people across the range from one event to another. Nor is it easy to change out that much paper in a timely fashion. Like we tell the competitors in the beginning, every minute a competitor wastes, is 1 hour of sitting around doing nothing. These guys hustled their butts off, moving that 50lbs up and down the 100 yard line, or during the Carbine Pit Run & Gun, and never let it show. I can tell you from personal experience it is much harder to run a match than shoot one. Thanks for the hard work.
Nothing works right during these matches without Lindy, not only does he bring Lisa Sisk with him to score, but he starts before most of us are awake to begin prepping the day. He keeps the electronics working and runs the other lines for us, and is important part of these matches. You can't run multiple ranges at the same time without a solid Range Officer to control the line fast and effectively. Lindy does all of this for us.
To Jacob, we work day in and day out together and it never gets boring. It's his range, his vision that keeps Sniper's Hide coming back year after year. Many times people ask me to run a match at another location and frankly it just wouldn't work. Jacob thinks about this stuff all the time, even in the middle of other classes, he is always storing drills we do away for an event during a match. Over the last several years I have watched the paper for the Course of Fire get smaller and smaller, and it still the events run smoother and smoother, this is because of Jacob, it's in his head all this comes from.
Now, the most valuable player on the team Lisa Bynum. She does everything we can't. She coordinates every competitor, answers their questions over and over again, with a smile, and makes sure the numbers are right. Also, she collects and catalogs every single prize making sure the companies that donate are given proper credit and that we have them ready for the table. She has to do this not only for the match, but for every other class we have, so he job never ends, it just blurs into a new day. In between all this she makes sure Jacob and I are on the straight and narrow, because without her, Jacob and I would just be watching monkey's on You Tube doing silly and outrageous things, cause we like monkeys, they make us laugh. Lisa doesn't have that luxury, she coordinates, the food, the money for targets, the Range Officers, everything, we just show up and point. Heck without her, I doubt we would even eat everyday to give you an idea of just how much she does. So, thanks to Lisa for all that unseen work.
Last but not least, the Vendors and Sponsors on Sniper's Hide who donate to the matches. These guys really stepped up this year and every competitor benefited from their generosity. I am going to put the list below, but first, understand these guys make sure every competitor gets their money back in a prize. So please recognize them, use them, and realize, the minimum we ask for $250 retail, a lot of them gave over $3000 worth of products, and others, in excess of $5000 to $10,000, so drop them a note and say thank you for their donation. They are not in any specific order, but one and the same, say thank even if you didn't attend the match, because you might want to in the future and these guys make it happen.
