Yes, options. He's not thrilled about dropping $3000 on one but wants to know what else is out.

Pick up a dpms. 308, 260, 6.5 Creedmore, 243. Less than $1200. Head over to rr arms and see what they have in stock.

Remington R-25. Price comparisons.
Rem has acquired DPMS, so essentially, that's what the R-25 is.

Rock River 308, I haven't hunted with it, but been great so far.

I've been waiting some time to get an AR-10, mostly because I require KAC/DPMS pattern, but one is too costly, and the other I'd want GAP to do their magic on before I waste a lot of time sorting out whether it's good to go or not. Now that LMTs are available, I think that's the best of both worlds.
O.K. that's my perspective on a combat worthy piece. If you just want to go hunting with it and not a trophy "it must function or else," and likely want 20"+, just pick up a DPMS or Rem. Another option? The FNAR has been VERY accurate and reliable. But that's obviously a different platform, altogether...
