Ok tyvm and wow

Not meaning to rain on anyone's parade, but you might want to check this little gem out:

How to tell if your Mitutoyo calipers are fake

I've had a couple sets over the years, and a month or so ago, it was time for a new one. Sure as $hit, I got snookered. Luckily I was able to return them and then ordered from a more reputable retailer (ie not Amazon).

I ordered mine from MSI viking after reading all that info on here. I will order things from amazon and such but not items like that

Sad that even calipers are not immune to being counterfeited. I have to admit that after you posted this, I had to go check mine :)

All checked out fine.

Yeah, one needs to be carefully about anything ordered from Amazon. I got my Mitutoyo calipers from Amazon and when I ordered them, I was ready to send them back after inspecting them for authenticity. As it turned out, they are authentic and ordered a second one . . . which, likewise, I was ready to send back just in case. ;)

It was kinda weird. Linked to the official Mitutoyo store, the 'seller' was Amazon... but the order was 'fullfilled' by some random 3rd party, which is where the fuckery occurred. Two out of three looked (and probably were) legit, and the third was pretty easy to miss if you weren't actively looking for it (I wasn't).

Luckily after I returned the item and got my refund, MSC had exactly what I needed.

CBP has this page https://www.cbp.gov/trade/e-allegations and it shows this page for individual orders being filled with counterfeit items https://www.iprcenter.gov/referral/view .

Back in the '80s I worked for some guys that had tools manufactured in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. They had control of their supply chain from manufacturing to the sales in the US. They knew that their products were counterfeited and sold elsewhere even back then, but it didn't affect the customers that they sold to.

With the advent of online sales, that business model protection is gone.

Feel free to report any counterfeit products delivered to you.
